Police: CT man negligently stored shotgun in home with two children, had three high-capacity magazines
A South Windsor man was arrested Tuesday for negligently storing a shotgun in a home with two children and possessing three high-capacity magazines, police said.
Mike D. Ortiz-Morales, 34, was arrested on a warrant stemming from an incident in October, according to the South Windsor Police Department. He faces three counts of possession of a large-capacity magazine, two counts of risk of injury to a minor and criminal negligent storage of a firearm.
According to South Windsor police, Ortiz-Morales was arrested in connection with a domestic violence incident on Oct. 22, 2022. During that investigation, authorities discovered that he had a shotgun that was stored without a safety lock “in a negligent manner” that “risked the safety of two juvenile children in the home,” police said.
Police said they also discovered Ortiz-Morales had three high-capacity magazines that were not registered.
Ortiz-Morales appeared Tuesday in Manchester Superior Court. Prior to his arrest, he was being held on unrelated charges, police said.
