Teen pronounced dead after double shooting in Hartford on Sunday

A 17-year-old student at West Hartford Public Schools was pronounced dead on Tuesday after a double shooting in Hartford on Sunday, police said.

Officers were in the area of Ann Street around 1:49 a.m. Sunday when they heard gunfire. They immediately responded and found Camden Seigel at the scene with gunshot wounds. He was listed in “extremely critical condition,” according to police. Hartford Police said he was later pronounced dead on Tuesday.

While officers were still at the scene, a man in his twenties, who was also shot, arrived at a local hospital in a private vehicle. He is in critical, but stable condition at the hospital, police said.

Paul Vicinus, superintendent of West Hartford Public Schools, identified Seigel as a student in the district. Vicinus said that a group of WHPS students were “tragically caught in the crossfire” of the shooting.

“In moments like this, the strength of a community is measured not only by its response, but by its care for one another,” Vicinus said in a statement Sunday morning. “We will move forward together with empathy, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of our children.”

The Hartford Police Department’s Major Crimes Division and Crime Scene Division are investigating the shooting, which remains ongoing.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Hartford Police Tip Line at 860-722-TIPS (8477).
