Connecticut man among 3 killed in avalanche in Washington

LEAVENWORTH, WA (WFSB) – A Connecticut man is one among three climbers who had been killed in a Washington state avalanche over the weekend.

Based on the Northwest Avalanche Middle, the incident occurred Sunday on Colchuck Peak close to Leavenworth.

A gaggle of six climbers had been concerned, officers mentioned.

Three of them died within the avalanche, mentioned the Northwest Avalanche Middle.

“The lead climber triggered an avalanche whereas trying to climb the Northeast Couloir of Colchuck Peak,” mentioned the Chelan County Sheriff’s Workplace (CCSO). “4 of the climbers had been swept down the couloir roughly 500 toes.”

Authorities mentioned a 53-year-old man from Connecticut, a 60-year-old lady from New York, and a 66-year-old man from New Jersey died within the incident.

The victims haven’t been recognized.

A person from New York suffered non-life-threatening accidents within the avalanche and went again to camp with two different climbers, police mentioned.

Twenty-two rescuers from a number of companies responded, based on authorities.

Police mentioned the restoration mission for the deceased climbers was known as off due to harmful circumstances.

“CCSO continues to work with Northwest Avalanche Middle to help in a get better plan,” authorities mentioned.
