McDaniel performed his collegiate basketball with the Wichita State Shockers, with whom he was the NCAA’s nationwide scoring chief in 1985 and rebounding chief in each 1983 and 1985. McDaniel was a consensus first-team All-American in 1985 as properly.

After his time with the Celtics, McDaniel performed one season abroad with Iraklis Thessaloniki of the FIBA EuroLeague.

After that, he completed his NBA profession with the (then) New Jersey (now, Brooklyn) Nets, enjoying two seasons earlier than hanging it up as a participant
