GLENWOOD, Wis. — A western Wisconsin sheriff’s deputy died Saturday night after being shot, the state Division of Justice mentioned.

Based on the DOJ, a St. Croix County deputy was responding to a possible drunken driver in a ditch within the township of Glenwood round 6:15 p.m.

Shortly after attending to the scene, the deputy reported pictures fired. The DOJ mentioned the deputy was shot, hospitalized and later died. They haven’t been publicly recognized.

Authorities mentioned the suspect took off operating and was later discovered useless in a wooded space with a gunshot wound, WCCO reported.
