Wisconsin Dells PD provide search update after boat capsizes on Wisconsin River

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. (WMTV) – The Wisconsin Dells Police Department is continuing the search for 20-year-old Frank Di Filippo, who went missing after a boat capsized on the Wisconsin River on April 3, an incident that claimed the life of his 75-year-old grandfather, Luis Di Filippo, of Chicago.

According to a post on the Wisconsin Dells Police Department’s Facebook page, crews from the WDPD, KFD, and the Sauk County Dive Team launched boats on Friday morning to explore areas that had not been previously searched. These areas were checked with sonar and an underwater drone, but no findings were reported.

Authorities also used sonar to scan an area about a mile and a half south of the Rivers Edge launch, extending up to the site of the incident. As the search continues, officials are waiting for water levels to drop significantly to allow for more shoreline searches. They are also hoping for an increase in water temperature to aid the search.

The police have shifted their focus to the southern section of the river. As the water recedes, exposing more shorelines and islands, they plan to conduct aerial searches of these areas.

Search efforts have been particularly challenging due to the water conditions near the Kilbourn Dam, where the family’s fishing boat capsized around 4:30 p.m. last Thursday.

Authorities are urging boaters to remain vigilant and report anything unusual they may encounter on the water.

Pat Fitzgerald targeting former Wisconsin coach for assistant role

Former Wisconsin cornerbacks coach Hank Poteat is Michigan State’s target for its next defensive backs coach, according to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz.

The Spartans are rebuilding their coaching staff after the recent hire of longtime Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald, who last coached in 2022, is tasked with turning around a Michigan State program that has not registered a winning season since 2021.

Poteat would bring extensive experience to the Spartans’ secondary. The longtime NFL cornerback has coached the position for the last decade. He started at Kent State in 2015-16, then spent four seasons at Toledo, two at Wisconsin (2021-22), and finally the last three at Iowa State. Poteat was part of a 2021 Wisconsin defensive coaching staff that led the unit to program and Power Four-best marks.

Wisconsin hosts Michigan State at Camp Randall Stadium in 2026. The Spartans’ early-season form under their new coaching staff will be worth watching.
