Penn State Travels to Wisconsin and Minnesota to Continue Conference Action – Penn State University Athletics

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.— The 61st-ranked Penn State ladies’s tennis group (10-9, 4-3 B1G) travels to Madison, Wis. and Saint Paul, Minn. this weekend to face the No. 44 Wisconsin Badgers (13-7, 5-2 B1G) on Friday, April 15 at 6 p.m. ET and No. 62 Minnesota Golden Gophers (14-8, 2-5 B1G) on Sunday, April 17 at 12 p.m. ET. 

LAST TIME OUT 

Final weekend the Nittany Lions went 2-0 in convention play, taking down Indiana, 5-1, on the street and Illinois at residence, 4-3. 

Penn State swept Indiana in doubles play with wins from Gabby O’Gorman and Alexandra Nielsen on courtroom No. 3, 6-1. Yvonne Zuffova and Olivia Ryan secured the doubles level on courtroom No. 2 to start Penn State’s early lead. 

The Nittany Lions earned victories from Alexandra Nielsen, O’Gorman, Chekhlystova and Zuffova in singles play to clinch the match for Penn State. 

The Combating Illini put up a troublesome match towards the Nittany Lions on Sunday afternoon. 

Penn State captured the doubles level with a 6-0 sweep from duo Gabby O’Gorman and Alexandra Nielsen on courtroom No. 3. Companions Yvonne Zuffova and Olivia Ryan secured the win on courtroom No. 2, 6-3, and the doubles level for the Nittany Lions 

Singles play went forwards and backwards between each groups. Penn State managed courts No. 1, 3 and 6. Gabby O’Gorman defeated Josie Frazier on courtroom No. 3. Courtroom No. 1 introduced the match again to a 3-3 tied rating with a win from Sofiya Chekhlystova over Kate Doung, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2. 

Match level was left to courtroom No. 6. Alina Lebedeva clinched the match for the Nittany Lions in straight units, 6-0, 6-1. 

SCOUTING THE BADGERS 

The Wisconsin Badgers come into Friday’s match with a 13-7 report and 5-2 report in convention play. 

In singles play, Wisconsin holds No. 85- ranked participant Ava Markham who posts a 22-10 profession report. The group carries companions Xinyu Cai and Alina Mukhortova, holding the No. 61 rating in doubles play. 

Previous to this weekend’s matchup with the Nittany Lions, Wisconsin defeated Minnesota, 4-3. The Badgers will host No.11 Ohio State on Sunday, April 17 following Friday’s match. 

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GOPHERS 

Minnesota enters Sunday’s match posting a 14-8 report and 2-5 convention report.  

The Golden Gopher’s will host No. 11 Ohio State earlier than taking up Penn State on Sunday and can proceed convention play touring to Indiana on Friday, April 22.
