Bratwurst’s Natural Partner – Sauerkraut – Getting Wisconsin HQ

Sheboygan is the Bratwurst Capital of the World, and now Wisconsin is poised to become the Sauerkraut King. That’s because one of the world’s leading manufacturers of the fermented cabbage dish is moving its headquarters to Wisconsin and expanding its manufacturing operations here.
The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation said that they provided assistance to Fermented Food Holdings Inc. in obtaining state tax credits and local expertise as it invests $13 million to move its corporate headquarters to Madison while expanding its production facilities in Bear Creek, where 41 full-time jobs will be coming to the northern Wisconsin community of some 400 persons. The WEDC is adding a half-million dollars to the deal in the form of performance-based tax credits.
In making the announcement on Monday, Governor Evers stated that: “As the home of the Bratwurst Capital of the World in Sheboygan, Wisconsin is already known worldwide for its brats, so it only makes sense that one of the world’s biggest makers of sauerkraut would want to be based here as well.”
Fermented Food Holdings is one of the world’s largest producers of sauerkraut and fermented foods, shipping to all 50 states as well as internationally. The new Bear Creek facility will increase annual capacity by 20 million pounds of cabbage.

Schommer recently retired from the U.S. Biathlon Team. He competed in the sport at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games and the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games. Ariens sponsored the U.S. Biathlon team.

Ariens says in his new role, Schommer will play a part in developing and supporting programming at the Nordic Center. Though his expertises are biathlon and Nordic skiing, Schommer will work with youth of all ages on many outdoor sports and recreational activities.
“We are thrilled to officially welcome Paul to the Ariens Nordic Center team,” said Sr. Director of Ariens Nordic Center Monica Ariens. “His Olympic experience, passion for outdoor sports, and commitment to youth in our community will make him an incredible asset. Paul’s presence will elevate our programming and inspire kids in our community for years to come.”
