A South Dakota woman pleaded guilty to falsifying a rape report in Florida to try and get a free STD test after she cheated on her husband, having been found out after police discovered she bought the rope she said was used herself at Walmart

Renee Dawn Skoglund, 30, will spend two years under a form of house arrest, eight years on probation and face a fine of over $17,000.

On March 8, Skoglund reported a sexual battery against her in Hillsborough County in Florida.

She pulled over to the side of a road she was driving on, claiming car trouble, according to 911 audio that was released.

Skoglund then told police a man tied up her arms and legs, put a towel on her head, shoved her in the car and raped her.

Skoglund was caught on surveillance footage buying the rope she used to fake a sexual assault

Her downfall was when she became specific about the type of rope used, one that police knew was sold at a local Walmart.

Police asked to see surveillance video, which led them to discover footage of Skoglund herself purchasing the rope.

‘Following this discovery, detectives recovered video from multiple places Mrs. Skoglund visited in the time surrounding the attack, refuting her initial statements,’ the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

‘She attempted to change her statements before eventually admitting to fabricating the entire incident.’

Ultimately, Skoglund was trying to fabricate her assault in an attempt to test herself for an STD following an extramarital affair.

‘She had consensual sexual intercourse with an individual in Hillsborough County,’ prosecutor Jessica Couvertier said in court, FOX 13 reported.

‘Then she felt guilty about it because of her marital status, and she wanted to get checked out for a sexually transmitted disease.’

Skoglund was charged on March 10 with misuse of a 911 system, false report of a crime and fabricating physical evidence.

Skoglund pleaded guilty to a shocking scheme in which she falsified a rape report in Florida in an attempt to obtain a free STD test after she’d cheated on her husband

She now owes a total of $17,245.26 to the local sheriff’s office for the money they spent on investigating her claim.

‘This case is truly disheartening,’ Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a press release after Skoglund was charged.

‘There are far too many victims faced with this type of trauma. This woman took advantage of our 911 emergency line and diverted attention from actual victims who need the viable resources available in these investigative scenarios.’
