FORTUNA, N.D. — A female motorcycle passenger was killed and her driver seriously injured when they were struck by a pickup on Sunday, May 28, in northwest North Dakota.

The 42-year-old motorcyclist and his 43-year-old passenger are from Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada. Both were wearing helmets. They were first taken by ambulance to St. Luke’s hospital in Crosby and later transferred to Trinity Health in Minot, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The 2016 Indian motorcycle was traveling east on Highway 5 in Divide County. A 2022 Ford F-150 driven by a 25-year-old man from Williston was traveling south on County Road 2. The driver of the pickup failed to yield to the motorcycle and struck it around 4:18 p.m. The pickup driver was not injured.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
