North Dakota Democrats short of candidates for Legislature
BISMARCK, N.D. – North Dakota Democrats lack candidates for 15 state Home seats and three seats within the state Senate.
Secretary of state filings present Republicans had been unable to recruit candidates for a Home seat and Senate seat in Fargo.
Late Monday was the deadline for candidates to file with the state secretary of state’s workplace for the June major election. The flurry of last-minute filings delayed the evaluation of candidates’ petitions for about two days.
North Dakota has 47 legislative districts. Republicans already maintain 80 Home seats to Democrats’ 14, and have a 40-7 edge within the Senate.
