Litchville-Marion school team wins state LifeSmarts competition

BISMARCK — Litchville-Marion Public School’s LifeSmarts team won the state LifeSmarts championship on Feb. 8 and will be representing North Dakota in the national competition in San Diego in April.

The Litchville-Marion team is The Money Hounds, and the state champion team members are Charlie Enger, Jesse Peddcord-Contrearas, Gracie Enger, Andrian Danilov and Riley Meyer. They are coached by David Handt.

The Nedrose Cardinals team took second place, and the Nedrose Tetris team was third.

Nine teams from Tioga, Burke Central, Tioga, Jamestown, Nedrose and Litchville-Marion competed in eight rounds of questions before the top three teams advanced to the final round.

The competition was held at the North Dakota National Guard RJ Bohn Armory on Feb. 7 with support from state agencies including including the North Dakota Department of Financial Institutions, North Securities Department, North Dakota Attorney General’s Office, North Dakota Housing Finance Agency and the Bank of North Dakota and volunteers.

The state competition tests students in grades 9-12 about personal finance, health and safety, the environment, technology and workforce preparation and consumer rights and responsibilities, according to lifesmarts.org.
