'What happens next in agriculture will happen first in Nebraska'

The future of agriculture innovation is now centered in Nebraska.

Federal, state and campus leaders celebrated that future during the May 6 groundbreaking of the National Center for Resilient and Regenerative Agriculture at Nebraska Innovation Campus. Learn more in the video above.

The federally-funded $160 million laboratory will double the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s science and support staff presence at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. The first phase of construction will feature 15,000 square feet of greenhouses and 10,000 square feet of headhouse space. It will connect to the Greenhouse Innovation Center at NIC.

The new greenhouse space will allow ARS to perform research on wheat, barley, sorghum, forage and bioenergy grasses, and other crops. Research on how these plants respond to emerging pests and pathogens under a full range of environmental conditions will empower scientists to make cutting-edge discoveries with the goal of developing climate-resilient crops for the U.S. agriculture industry.

“This project is a testament to the long history of innovation, ingenuity and adaptability of agricultural producers across the United States and right here in Nebraska. It celebrates an incredibly productive 120-year partnership between USDA-ARS and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and it exemplifies the passion and dedication of agricultural, state, and federal leaders,” said Mike Boehm, vice chancellor for UNL’s Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources. “Nebraska is a special place with incredible people, and the ripples of what we do here often extend around the globe. I believe the work that will take place in this facility will usher in a new era of American agriculture, and I’m thrilled that what happens next in agriculture will happen first in Nebraska.”

Leaders who provided remarks during the groundbreaking ceremony include: Chris Kabourek, interim president of the University of Nebraska system; Chancellor Rodney D. Bennett; Gov. Jim Pillen; U.S. Reps. Don Bacon and Mike Flood; U.S. Sens. Deb Fischer and Pete Ricketts; and Simon Liu, USDA-ARS administrator.

The groundbreaking also drew positive media coverage. Learn more by clicking the links below.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Nebraska man was sentenced to federal prison on Tuesday for dealing methamphetamine.

Eswin Lopez-Bravo, 52, of Lexington will spend 4½ years behind bars, then five years on supervised release.

U.S. District Judge John Gerrard also ordered him to give up $4,106 in suspected drug money.

Lopez-Bravo set up shop in a Lexington hotel room “for quite some time,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a press release.

Law enforcement obtained a search warrant for the room in January 2023.

Lopez-Bravo and a second person with a federal arrest warrant were in the room, authorities said.

Investigators found 13.5 grams of meth hidden under a lamp, plastic baggies under the mattress, crystal shards that tested positive for meth, and $1,712 in cash.

On June 15, 2023, Lopez-Bravo was arrested on a state warrant.

He had 9.8 grams of meth and $2,394 in cash on him, authorities said.

Text messages showed that Lopex-Bravo made several thousand dollars’ worth of drug transactions on behalf of someone incarcerated in California, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Pete Davidson loses his cool as he walks OFF stage due to heckling at Nebraska stand-up gig… but fans defend the former SNL star

Fans online are coming to Pete Davidson’s defense after the comedian lost his cool and was forced to walk off stage before finishing a set in Omaha, Nebraska due to heckling.

The 30-year-old former Saturday Night Live regular was hounded by rowdy fans during his Prehab Tour stop on Friday night and ended the show early as a result.

Following the debacle, a fan named Kate Stivers took to YouTube to speak out in support of the actor, with others also coming to his defense.

‘Where the f**k did decorum go at events because he shouldn’t have had to walk off stage because you guys don’t understand that because you see crowd work on TikTok that you think every comedian needs to be heckled to the point that they leave stage with one joke left,’ the influencer said in part.

Stivers went on to add, ‘It’s just absolutely absurd. You’re ruining it for the whole show.’

She noted that attendees were required to hand over their phones ahead of the performance, stating that she agrees with the policy.

‘There should be no tolerance. You need to immediately be kicked the f**k out,’ the YouTuber proclaimed in her spirited rant.

Other users on the platform echoed her sentiments.

‘I was at this show, and unfortunately ended up sitting by one of the women being a problem. It was embarrassing to say the least.

‘Disappointed Nebraska didn’t allow him to feel respected enough to finish his set. Definitely embarrassing for Omaha, and sad that has to be his last taste of our city,’ one person lamented.

Another added, ‘I’ve been to so many comedy shows in Omaha and don’t understand why people feel like they need to be part of the show.’

The person continued, ‘I’m here to see the comedian, not hear your comments that are so funny to your garage beer drinking buddies. That made me so sad for Pete and all the people who paid the money and waited in line to see that second show.’

Per Page Six, a Pete supporter on Reddit also contributed to the conversation: ‘I was there and it was so s****y.

‘He was so close to being done and we lost out on a great ending to a great show because people suck.’

Davidson is scheduled to next take the stage on Saturday, June 8 in Niagara Falls at OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino.

The tour will then head to Wisconsin, where he has two shows scheduled on June 12 and June 13.

He would then transfer to Washington for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, where he would play running back. Last season he recorded 33 carries for 201 yards and one touchdown.
