Nebraska Football Recruiting: 4-Star Omaha Westside LB Commits to Huskers

A massive weekend for Nebraska football saw not only a win on the field, but is now seeing wins on the recruiting trail.

The No. 1 player in the state of Nebraska for the class of 2025 has officially committed to the Cornhuskers. A four-star linebacker out of Omaha Westside, Christian Jones made the announcement on social media Monday evening.

The caption of the post says, “THROW THE BONES.” Jones closes the video by walking out of a row of corn in a Blackshirts shirt to say, “There is no place like Nebraska.”

The 6-2, 215-pound recruit is the No. 19 linebacker in the country and is No. 161 among national prospects, according to 247Sports Composite. Jones picked the Huskers over USC, Boston College, Iowa, and Iowa State.

247Sports Scouting Analyst Gabe Brooks gave Jones high scores for his athleticism.

“Motor runs hot and reveals itself in pursuit,” Brooks said. “Displays good linear closing speed but can also redirect to rally. Could provide core special teams value early in college career. Displays functional strength as a defender with ability to play through contact with obvious core strength and body control”

Nebraska’s 2025 class is now up to 19 commitments. Seven of the commits are 247Sports Composite four-stars: Jones, wide receiver Isaiah Mozee, quarterback TJ Lateef, defensive lineman Malcolm Simpson, defensive lineman Kade Pietrzak, running back Jamarion Parker, and cornerback Bryson Webber..

Nebraska football adds LB Christian Jones, No. 1 prospect in state, to 2025 class

Christian Jones, a four-star linebacker out of Omaha Westside and the No. 1-ranked prospect in the state of Nebraska in the Class of 2025, has committed to the Huskers after his visits to Memorial Stadium for the first two games of the season.

Jones picked Nebraska over Oklahoma and counted offers from USC, Auburn, Iowa, Notre Dame and others. He’s ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 161 prospect nationally and the 19th-best linebacker.

At 6 feet 2 and 215 pounds, Jones plays for the two-time defending Class A champion in Nebraska. Former Westside teammates Caleb Benning, Tristan Alvano, Jaylen Lloyd and Preston Okafor play for the Huskers.

Jones’ father, Dave Jones, played at Nebraska in the 1990s.

The Huskers were long locked in a recruiting battle with the Sooners for the younger Jones, who chose to wait on his decision until after he watched the opening stretch of play this college season.

Nebraska is 2-0 for the first time since 2019 after a 28-10 victory against Colorado on Saturday. The Huskers have allowed two touchdowns in two games.

Jones is the 19th member of Nebraska’s Class of 2025 and sixth from a Nebraska high school, joining defensive lineman Tyson Terry of Omaha North, athlete Jackson Carpenter of Lincoln Southwest, athlete Pierce Mooberry and safety Caden VerMaas, both of Millard North in Omaha, and athlete Conor Booth of Wahoo Bishop Neumann.

Jones fills a need for Nebraska at linebacker. He’s the first player at the position to commit in this class. The Huskers are set to lose seniors John Bullock and MJ Sherman at linebacker and possibly Javin Wright, who’s listed as a senior but has dealt with numerous injuries and medical issues in his career.
