Multiple people were injured in a shooting at an Iowa high school on Thursday morning, authorities said.
At approximately 7:37 a.m., police received reports of an active scene at Perry High School in Perry, Iowa. Officers responded within seven minutes of the active shooter alarm, Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante told reporters.
The total number of victims and their status have not been confirmed. Infante said authorities are working to determine that information and that there is no further danger to the public.
“The community is safe,” the sheriff said. “We’re just now working backwards, trying to figure out everything that happened and make notifications. There will be another update later on today.”

The Associated Press reported two gunshot victims were taken by ambulance to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in the state capital of Des Moines.
A law enforcement source told the AP the suspect in the shooting has died of what investigators believe is a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Infante said the shooting happened before school began.
“Luckily, there was very few students and faculty in the building, which I think contributed to a good outcome in that sense,” he said.
Zander Shelley, 15, was in a hallway waiting for the school day to start when he heard gunshots and dashed into a classroom, his father, Kevin Shelley, told the AP. Zander was grazed twice and hid in the classroom before texting his father at 7:36 a.m.
Kevin Shelley, who drives a garbage truck, told his boss he had to run. “It was the most scared I’ve been in my entire life,” he said.

Rachael Kares, an 18-year-old senior, told the AP she was at jazz band practice when students heard what sounded like four gunshots, spaced apart.
“We all just jumped,” Kares said. “My band teacher looked at us and yelled, ‘Run!’ So we ran.”
Kares said students and faculty ran out past the football field, with people yelling, “Get out! Get out!” as they ran. She said she heard additional shots while she fled, but was most concerned about getting home to her 3-year-old son.
“At that moment I didn’t care about anything except getting out because I had to get home with my son,” she told the AP.

The sheriff’s office, Perry Police Department, and multiple federal agencies also responded to the shooting.
Authorities have identified a suspect but have not released their name at this time, the sheriff said.
Multiple EMS vehicles were sent to the scene at 1200 18th Street, according to public safety radio traffic.
Federal agents from the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) also said they were on the ground.
Perry High School belongs to the Perry Community School District, about 25 miles northwest of Des Moines. About 1,785 students are enrolled in the school district, according to its website.
Thursday was the first day of school after winter break, according to the school’s calendar.
“Our hearts are broken by this senseless tragedy. Our prayers are with the students, teachers & families of the Perry Community,” Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds said in a statement. “I have been in contact with law enforcement agencies & am continuing to monitor the situation. I will be joining their press conference today.”
A second press conference will be held Thursday afternoon to discuss new details as they are learned.

‘Very large snow storm coming’ Sunday, but snowfall totals uncertain
A significant snow storm will hit during the late evening on March 14 and last until the morning of March 16. The National Weather Service is advising people to plan to stay off the roads.
Weather forecasters aren’t sure how much snow central Wisconsin residents will see Sunday, March 15, but they are advising people to stay off the roads that day.
There is a significant storm coming that will hit during the late evening hours on Saturday, March 14 and go through March 15, lasting until almost the morning of Monday, March 16, said Scott Berschback, National Weather Service meteorologist in Green Bay. However, as of March 11, the National Weather Service isn’t putting out any predictions for snowfall totals just yet.
“There is a very large snow storm coming,” Berschback said.
Some weather apps on phones are predicting between 20-24 inches of snow for March 15 in Central Wisconsin, and The Weather Channel app says between 8-12 inches are expected.
The National Weather Service isn’t predicating amounts right now because saying there is a possibility of between 8-24 inches of snow isn’t very helpful, Berschback said.
The storm could hit closer to the Milwaukee area or up near the Michigan state line, Berschback said. He said it is going to be a significant storm, but as of March 11, it isn’t known whether it will be a major storm similar to what we’ve seen this winter or one that the area hasn’t seen in years, he said.
Berschback recommends residents keep a close eye on the weather this upcoming weekend and plan to not drive anywhere on Sunday.
Snow also expected March 12 in Central Wisconsin
There is another storm that is expected on Thursday, March 12, but it will be hitting north of Wausau, Berschback said. Wausau, Marshfield, Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids can expected about 1/2 inch to 1 inch of snow March 12.

Jewish leaders want Chicago mayor to create antisemitism task force
NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
Jewish leaders are pressuring Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson to establish an antisemitism task force, because they believe he’s not doing enough to protect the Jewish community, Fox News Digital has learned.
“There was a 58% rise in hate crimes,” Rebecca Weininger, the senior regional director of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Midwest, told Fox News Digital, specifically referring to anti-Jewish hate crimes. “So to be clear, that’s not hate incidents. It’s hate crimes, bias-motivated crimes against Jews in the city of Chicago.”
The Chicago Commission on Human Relations in July last year found that the Jewish community experienced a 58% increase in hate crimes from 2023-2024. Other groups experienced a decline.

The ADL held a press conference on Monday to demand that Johnson adopt recommendations of the Chicago Commission on Human Relations.
Among those recommendations is a task force to protect Jewish members.
“Establish the task force your commission recommended, name a leader accountable for this work, set timelines, make progress public,” Chicago Sinai Congregation Rabbi Amanda Greene told ABC 7.

“The taskforce would be very similar to other task forces that the mayor’s office already has in other marginalized communities. It would be populated by the mainstream Jewish community as a way to give information to the mayor about the lived experience of Jews in Chicago right now,” Weininger told Fox News Digital.
Weininger continued, “To help inform other executive policies that he could adopt that would be immediately beneficial to the mainstream Jewish population.”

Other task forces Chicago established are the Task Force on Missing and Murdered Chicago Women, which focuses on policy changes to address violence against women, and the Reparations Task Force. Chicago also established a Task Force on Black Immigrants that investigates social and economic conditions for Black immigrants in Illinois.
Johnson’s office declined to comment when reached by Fox News Digital.
