Toddler, mother ejected after stolen car crashes during police chase in Missouri

NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Missouri (KMOV) — A girl and her 2-year-old son have been ejected after the Hyundai they have been in was hit by a stolen automobile that was being chased by officers in North County Friday morning.

The accident occurred round 8:50 a.m. Officers say they noticed a stolen crimson Dodge sedan at Riverview and I-270 that had been taken in a carjacking in St. Louis Metropolis Thursday evening. The suspect then led officers on a chase and officers tried to place down spike strips to flatten the tires of the Dodge, however they failed.

Finally, the Dodge hit a black Hyundai that was turning westbound onto Hudson Street from West Florissant. The Hyundai then hit a utility pole and burst into flames. A girl and her 2-year-old baby contained in the Hyundai have been ejected. They suffered life-threatening accidents. The Dodge then hit a white Oldsmobile; the driving force contained in the Oldsmobile suffered minor accidents.

The suspect is in custody and was taken to a hospital, however police say he was not injured.

Police stated as a result of the automobile was taken in a violent matter, it qualifies for a police pursuit. Officers discovered a gun within the suspect’s automobile.
