Gus Walz wins the night • Minnesota Reformer
Sure, it was a good speech and all, especially since Gov. Tim Walz kept it less than 20 minutes.
Walz accepted the Democratic nomination for vice president of the United States by introducing himself to the American public with a mix of biography and shots at the Republican ticket.
But the star of the third night of the Democratic National Convention may wind up being 17-year old Gus Walz, whose sobbing celebration of his father — “That’s my dad!” he joyously yelled — has already captivated the internet.
OMG I missed Walz’s son Gus crying and saying “that’s my dad!” when his dad shouted him out. What a moment. pic.twitter.com/bFV1kFkeHv

Gus was reacting to his father’s tribute to the family; Gus and his older sister Hope and Minnesota First Lady Gwen Walz “are my entire world,” Tim Walz said.
Even as Tim Walz walked on stage, however, Gus Walz was visibly choked up with emotion.
The Walzes relayed to People magazine recently that Gus, who will be a senior this year at St. Paul Central High School, has a non-verbal learning disorder, ADHD and an anxiety disorder.
“It took time, but what became so immediately clear to us was that Gus’ condition is not a setback — it’s his secret power,” the Walzes told People.
Eric Garcia, an MSNBC columnist and author of a book on autism, wrote this week that the Walzes should be applauded for how they’ve approached Gus’ future: “What makes the Walz family’s story so reassuring is that they seem to want to help Gus live a good life rather than change who he is.”
Minutes after Walz finished his address to largely positive reviews, Gus Walz and “That’s my dad” were trending on the social media platform X.
Dads and everyone else were in agreement that it was the most authentic moment of public filial love in memory.
I don’t cry easily, but as the dad of a teenage son with autism, ADHD & anxiety issues, watching Tim Walz’s 17-year-old son(who has a non-verbal learning disorder, ADHD & anxiety disorder) standing up, crying & pointing to the stage telling everyone “that’s my dad” just gutted me pic.twitter.com/9M8uS9gCC8

Another point of agreement: Do not mess with Gus:
Gus Walz just made about a million new friends, uncles, aunts, and cousins ready to go to war for him

A note of caution for Gus: Stay off social media, and finish school.

If Nolan Teasley is the “primary football executive” in Minnesota, Seahawks will get compensatory picks
The hiring of Seahawks assistant G.M. Nolan Teasley as the Vikings’ new G.M. will carry a specific benefit for his former team.
Per the league, Teasley qualifies as a diverse candidate under the NFL provision that gives the former team of a newly-hired G.M. or head coach a pair of third-round compensatory draft picks.
The only question is whether Teasley will be Minnesota’s “primary football executive.” That requirement prevented the Bears from receiving the compensatory draft picks when assistant General Manager Ian Cunningham was hired to be the Falcons G.M. The league decided that president of football Matt Ryan is the “primary football executive” in Atlanta.
The Bears appealed the decision to the league, and Bears fans continue to be mystified by the outcome — especially since Ryan has made it clear that Cunningham is a General Manager “in every facet of the word.”
Minnesota has no similar position to Ryan’s job with the Falcons. The only alternative to Teasley would be coach Kevin O’Connell. But there has been no indication that, moving forward, O’Connell will emerge as the top football executive for the Vikings, with full control over the roster and the draft.
The NFL’s full collection of diversity of initiatives have recently come under attack by Florida’s attorney general. The Seahawks getting two extra third-round draft picks undoubtedly will spark a reaction from those who, in the current climate, attack efforts aimed at enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
