1 adult fatally shot at a youth flag football game in Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE (AP) — A 47-year-old person was fatally shot at a youth flag football game Saturday in Milwaukee, according to the city council’s president.
Milwaukee Common Council President José Pérez said in a statement that a person was killed during a game in his district.
Milwaukee police confirmed a 47-year-old with a gunshot wound was transported to a local hospital around 1 p.m. and died. Officers arrested a 37-year-old in connection with the shooting but later said the person was no longer considered a suspect.
Police did not release further details or any potential motive for the attack.
“The circumstances leading up to the shooting are under investigation,” Milwaukee police said.
Milwaukee Public Schools said the district would provide resources to students in need of support when school starts Monday.
“Milwaukee we MUST do better for ourselves, our children, and neighbors for the future of our city,” Pérez said in a statement.

Kamala Harris bringing campaign back to Milwaukee this week
How polling can vary in Wisconsin
Veteran political reporter Craig Gilbert explains how polling in Wisconsin can vary and how historically they have been too close to call.
Vice President Kamala Harris is bringing her presidential campaign back to Milwaukee.
Harris will return to Wisconsin’s largest city Thursday as the race with former President Donald Trump reaches its final weeks. It will be her sixth visit to the battleground state, and her third stop in Milwaukee County. She launched her presidential campaign here in late July with a rally in West Allis.
The campaign stop comes as Harris is locked in a tight race with Trump. In the latest Marquette University Law School poll released earlier this month, she maintained a four-point lead over Trump, within the poll’s margin of error. Among both registered and likely voters, it was 52% for Harris and 48% for Trump.
Harris’ last campaign stop in Milwaukee was at Fiserv Forum in August when she appeared with her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, during the second night of the Democratic National Convention.
She has also held rallies in Eau Claire, Madison and Ripon.
Trump was most recently in Wisconsin last Sunday for a rally in Juneau, which was his fourth event in the swing state in just nine days.

O’Reilly, the Admirals’ all-time leading scorer in the team’s American Hockey League history, posted points in each of the three periods – including the game-winning goal.
Admirals goalie Matt Murray was sharp in his Milwaukee debut. Murray stopped 31 shots to pick up his first win of the season.

Milwaukee scored its first goal of the season, and first of the game, at 17:03 of the first period. Kieffer Bellows intercepted a neutral-zone pass and skated to the net. His shot was kicked aside by Wolves goalie Spencer Martin, but Bellows corralled the rebound. He then sent a pass on the left wing rim behind the Wolves net to O’Reilly. O’Reilly moved the puck to a wide-open Joakim Kemell for the goal from the front of the net.
The Admirals grabbed a 2-0 lead with a power play goal at 7:01 of the second period. Vinnie Hinostroza sent a pass from the right wing wall behind the Wolves net for Zach L’Heureux. L’Heureux then passed the puck to O’Reilly at the goalmouth. O’Reilly deked to his backhand and gently slid the puck past the outstretched left leg of Martin for the tally.
Chicago scored a power-play goal of its own at 13:07 of the second period to make it 2-1. Ryan Suzuki chased a loose puck which caromed out of the left corner into that circle and slapped a shot off the post and in for his first goal of the year.
Bellows scored his first goal of the season after receiving a breakaway pass from O’Reilly at 5:21 of the third stanza. O’Reilly intercepted a pass at the Milwaukee line and found Bellows streaking up the middle. Bellows snapped a wrist shot past the blocker of Martin.
