South Milwaukee homicide, man arrested


Body found in South Milwaukee Pizza Hut dumpster (Feb. 7, 2023)

A 31-year-old Milwaukee man has been arrested in connection to the South Milwaukee homicide that took place on Wednesday, Feb. 7, with the victim’s body being found in a Pizza Hut dumpster.

South Milwaukee police said the man was arrested on Sunday, Feb. 11.

Authorities said 55-year-old Alexander Stengel of Cudahy was killed, and his body was found around 11 a.m. that morning.

The investigation is ongoing and charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.

FOX6 News was at the scene that day, not far from Packard and College, and found a garbage truck within the police perimeter. Crews in HAZMAT suits were also seen going in and out of the Pizza Hut with a trail of yellow evidence markers stretching from the restaurant to the dumpster.

“We started asking the garbage guy, and he was like, ‘Yeah, we saw a dead body behind the garbage can,’” Barry Hallett, who owns a nearby business, said Wednesday.

The Wisconsin State Crime Lab is assisting police in the investigation.

New Milwaukee youth center opens, aims to provide resources


Starting March 1, a youth center on the south side of Milwaukee will be opening its doors to the community.

It’s aiming to help provide support and resources for young adults.

Mikaela Ortega always keeps her grandkids’ wellbeing in mind. Ortega said she wants them to invest their time productively and stay out of trouble, especially in neighborhoods like Milwaukee’s south side, where resources are needed.

“I believe a great program to keep our kids engaged would be amazing,” Ortega said.

It’s a wish that came at a good time.

Owen’s Place is opening its second youth resource center and held its grand opening on Wednesday, Feb. 21. This one is near 5th and National in the city’s Walker’s Point neighborhood.

It’s a place meant to help provide compassionate care and support for children and families in the community.

“This will allow Milwaukee County to provide resources to our young people in the larger community, to support and guide them and transition into adulthood,” said Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley.

Here are two ways to celebrate Fred Usinger Day with free brats in the Milwaukee area


The Milwaukee area is celebrating Fred Usinger Day with free brats.

The Bavarian Bierhaus, at 700 W. Lexington Blvd. in Glendale, is giving away free bratwursts from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday during its Fred Usinger Day celebration.

There will also be live polka music and a keg-tapping ceremony at 6 p.m.

The Old German Beer Hall, 1009 N. Martin Luther King Drive, will celebrate Friday with an all-day event from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Free Usinger brats — one per person — will be given out while supplies last.

Fritz Usinger, Fred Usinger’s great-grandson and president of Usinger’s, will tap a wooden keg of Hofbräu Munich beer at 6 p.m.

The day honors company founder Fred Usinger, who bought his employer’s butcher shop and founded Usinger’s in 1880.
