Replacing departing Adrian Griffin, the Milwaukee Bucks are set to name Doc Rivers as the new head coach.
The agreement was confirmed by multiple NBA insiders on Wednesday.
Rivers, 62, was labeled as the favorite to take over the Bucks. Before emerging as the top choice for the vacant position, he reportedly consulted Griffin over recent weeks.
Led by Greek Freak Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, the team based in the most populous city of Wisconsin currently ranks second in the Eastern Conference. A 30-13 W-L tally trails the leading Boston Celtics by a margin of 3.5 games. The Cleveland Cavaliers are next on the schedule of the 2023-24 Regular Season with two meetings in Fiserv Forum tonight and Friday. Interim head coach Joe Prunty is in charge until Rivers officially resumes his lengthy coaching career in the NBA.
Featured as the play-caller in 2,075 games, the American tactician captured the championship with the C’s in 2008. Other former teams range from introducing himself through the Orlando Magic between 1999 and 2003 to moving on from Boston to the Los Angeles Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers over the last ten years. His overall record is 1,097-763 in the Regular Season and 111-104 in the Playoffs.
Playing days stretched from 1983 to 1996, packing spells with the Atlanta Hawks, Clippers, New York Knicks, and San Antonio Spurs. He logged 945 games played, including 81 in the Playoffs. In 1998, he was selected for the annual All-Star Game.
