Northern Michigan fire burns 2,000 acres, forces evacuations, road closures
The Michigan Division of Pure Sources says fireplace crews are working to include a northern Michigan wildfire that has already burned hundreds of acres.
The DNR says the Blue Lakes Hearth began Friday afternoon round 12:30 p.m.
They are saying as of 9 p.m. Friday, it had already burned an estimated 2,000 acres in Montmorency and Cheboygan counties.
It additionally pressured 13 folks to evacuate from the Black River Ranch.
The DNR says, as of Friday night time, the fireplace has not destroyed any buildings.
“The hearth is fueled by a mixture of jack pine, combined pine and grasses, with a really giant smoke plume seen from miles away,” mentioned DNR spokesperson, Kerry Heckman.
Crews needed to shut down a number of roads as they work to place the fireplace out:
- Blue Lakes Street to East Department Street

As of Friday night time, investigators have no idea what triggered the wildfire.
