Michigan football historical records against incoming Big Ten schools

In 2024, the Big Ten will get bigger, and while the expectation was that the Wolverines would see USC in 2024 and UCLA in 2025, the schedule is set to change with the news of last week. That’s because Oregon and Washington are joining the Southern California schools, adding fierce competition that used to come via the Pac-12.

Michigan football has seen all four teams throughout the years, and not always in a postseason matchup in the Rose Bowl. In fact, Washington came to Ann Arbor in 2021, so there could be players who were freshmen on that squad who could potentially see the Huskies again, but in a conference game, depending on the impending schedule.

That said, below we’ve compiled every game played against each of the four new additions, their head-to-head record, and the results of each matchup.

Michigan and Oregon have played five times in history and the Wolverines have a 3-2 record against the Ducks. Oregon currently holds a two-game winning streak after winning in 2003 and 2007.

The two teams have always played in the regular season and have not met in a bowl game. All but one of the games took place at Michigan Stadium.

Michigan has actually played UCLA the second-most of the other additions, having seen the Bruins 11 times in history. It actually would have been 12, but the home-and-home that was set to start in 2021 was canceled.

The Wolverines hold an 8-3 edge over the Bruins. They’ve only played in the postseason twice — once in the Rose Bowl in 1983 and in the Bluebonnet Bowl in 1981. UCLA won the last contest, a 2000 regular-season game in Pasadena.

They have played in the Rose Bowl four times, but have otherwise seen each other on one or the other’s home turf.
