TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – About $961 million in taxes was collected within the State of Kansas through the month of September.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly introduced on Monday, Oct. 3, that the Sunflower State’s tax receipts in September totaled $961 million – about $96.2 million, or 11.1%, greater than estimated. She stated that’s an $84.5 million – 9.6% – progress from September 2021.
“Due to our laser-sharp deal with creating high quality jobs and attracting enterprise to Kansas, we’ve now seen 26 months of income surpluses,” Gov. Kelly stated. “That has enabled us to supply tax credit for lecturers and lower taxes for seniors, veterans, householders, and companies – all whereas paying off money owed and absolutely funding our faculties. These income estimates present we’re making Kansas one of the best place to dwell, work, and lift a household.”

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A carbon monoxide (CO) leak is what Kansas City Fire says sent several to the hospital late Sunday.
It happened at an apartment complex at 10450 Wornall Road, just down the street from Notre Dame de Sion High School.
Fire investigators found carbon monoxide levels as high as 1400 parts per million (ppm). For reference, The World Health Organization recommends indoor air level for CO remain below an average of nine ppm for any eight hours and below 25 ppm for any one hour.
Three patients are in the hospital, their condition unknown.
Spire is working to confirm the source.
According to KCFD’s preliminary investigations, the cause is suspected to come from a boiler in the basement of the apartment building.

FRANKLIN, Kan. — A local museum offered an in-depth geology lesson.
The Miners Hall Museum presented “The Geology of Coal Mining” hosted by Andy Connolly, Larry Spahn, and David Jenkins.
This was the third and final show of the Little Balkans Coal Camp West Mineral exhibit.
The presentation explains the different types of rocks found in Kansas and goes in detail of how they got there.
Connolly also brought samples of rocks, minerals, and fossils from Kansas for the audience to pass around and inspect.
“You don’t need a fancy degree to be a scientist, you can go out in the field and find and identify rocks, minerals, and fossils. You can observe the natural way, the natural world, and really think about how the world has changed over millions of years. You don’t need a degree, you just need curiosity and a love for the outdoors,” said Andy Connolly, Kansas Geological Survey science communication specialist.
Connolly went on to talk about the three major influences on the geology of Kansas — ancient oceans that used to cover the land, the Rocky Mountains, and ice ages.
On Sunday, the Kansas City Royals will face the Texas Rangers in the third game of their series at Globe Life Field. The Royals, now holding a 42-36 record, aim to avoid a series sweep after dropping the first two games to the Rangers.
