Iowa farmer feels confident with planting decisions
An eastern Iowa farmer says he was able to avoid replanting any of his crops.
Adam Rahe raises over a thousand acres of corn and soybeans near Dyersville. “Luckily, we did not (replant). We got about 700 acres in on the first go in April on the 20th. That stuff looked really good. And then we sat and waited quite a while due to the wet weather, switched the beans, got them in and then finished up with a few acres of corn.”
He tells Brownfield he took advantage of an early planting window for corn. “Soybeans we’d really like to plant first. It seems like they’re more tolerant to some of the challenges of emergence, but we did go to corn and sitting here today I feel good with that decision.”
Rahe says wet and windy conditions have made it difficult to finish up post emergence spraying.
