Iowa Auditor Sand says someone tried to steal his paychecks
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa Auditor Rob Sand says he was the goal of an tried electronic mail rip-off through which somebody pretended to be him and unsuccessfully tried to maneuver his paycheck deposit to a special checking account.
Sand used his personal expertise to warn Iowans on Monday about methods fraudulent emails could be designed to provide scammers entry to tax refunds or paycheck deposits. He credited a state human assets employee with contacting him instantly on Might 13 to alert him of the e-mail to divert his paycheck direct deposit to a special financial institution.
