1 dead, 2 injured in northwest Iowa single-car crash

SIOUX COUNTY, Iowa (WOWT) – One individual is useless after an SUV went off the highway in northwest Iowa.

In line with the Iowa State Patrol, a 2009 Mercury Mariner was heading westbound close to B40 and Garfield Avenue in Sioux County, Iowa, Sunday at 6:22 a.m.

The motive force of the Mariner left the highway for an unknown cause and went right into a ditch. The SUV then vaulted a culvert and hit an embankment.

Iowa State Patrol says the motive force, recognized as 25-year-old Reyes Felipe Lopez-Lopez, was pronounced useless on the scene.

Two passengers, a 32-year-old man and a 3-year-old woman, have been injured and brought to Sioux Middle Hospital. They have been later airlifted to Sioux Falls Space Hospital.

Iowa State Patrol says they think alcohol was an element within the crash.
