Fall-like weekend ahead

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — This weekend’s forecast has a crisp, fall-like feel. A complete contrast to last weekend when the heat index was peaking in the mid-90s each afternoon.

TODAY: A cooler start with temperatures waking up in the 50s. Mostly sunny skies are expected under ideal conditions. High temperatures in the mid-70s with comfortable air.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear skies remain. Low temperatures in the mid-50s. This could be one of our coolest nights of the whole summer. The last time Indianapolis had a low 55 or below you would have to go back to July 1.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy with pleasant air still around. Lucas Oil Stadium may have the roof open for the Colts’ first preseason game against the Broncos. High temperatures in the upper 70s. Be sure to peak at the skies tomorrow night when the Perseid meteor shower will be peaking with 50-100 meteors per hour.

7-DAY FORECAST: There is a very isolated chance of a shower on Monday. Otherwise, our dry stretch continues into mid-week as high temperatures creep back into the 80s. Thursday and Friday will provide central Indiana with our next rain chance.

New partnership celebrates Indianapolis’ Black baseball heritage

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Indians has partnered with GANGGANG, an agency centered around equity and culture, to honor the history of Negro Leagues and Black baseball in Indianapolis.

The partnership includes revitalized imagery for representing the original Indianapolis Clowns and
Indianapolis ABCs – two historic Negro Leagues franchises in the Circle City. They’ll focus on educational tools and community outreach opportunities through five core principles: respectful representation, cultural education, authenticity through collaboration, understanding and empathy, and empowering impact.

Redesigned on-field hats, jerseys, and merchandise honoring the original franchises of both the ABCs and
Clowns will be launched in May in conjunction with a three-part web series highlighting Negro Leagues
history, current activations and outreach, and GANGGANG’s visual creation process.

“This is an effort to not only celebrate history but also protect history and heritage. It represents a very
important part of Indianapolis history,” said Alan Bacon, co-founder of GANGGANG. “There wouldn’t be
this evolution of baseball if it weren’t for these original creators that we get to celebrate and talk about.”

During Negro Leagues Heritage Weekend on Friday, Aug. 21 and Saturday, Aug. 22, the Indians will suit
up as the ABCs, with the opportunity for fans to bid on game-worn jerseys to benefit Indianapolis Indians Charities.

Throughout the weekend, fans will have the opportunity to experience Negro Leagues educational opportunities and activations from local Black artists.

Fans are encouraged to submit their personal stories from playing baseball growing up, attending games at Bush Stadium or Victory Field, and any personal connections to the Indians, Clowns or ABCs, to baseball in Indiana here.

Pots & Pans Pie Company expands with new Monon Trail location

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Each and every Saturday, WISH-TV highlights a local company together with our partners at Indiana Grown.

This week, Clarissa Morley with Pots & Pans Pie Company joined Stacy Schooler on News 8 Daybreak to share updates about the recent expanding of the company and of course, curb our sweet tooths with a few yummy desserts!

Pots and Pans Pie Company began operations in 2016 by serving five local farmers’ markets during its first summer. Following two years as a mobile vendor, the business expanded into its first brick-and-mortar storefront at 49th Street and College Avenue in 2018.

The company produces pies, cookies, and other various pastries by utilizing local Indiana farms to supply their seasonal menu. They primarily work with with Becker Farms to obtain meat, eggs and milk. Fruit for summer pies is sourced from Garwood Orchard and the company also partners with Gunthorpe for additional supplies.

Apple pie and sugar creme brulee are permanent menu items, but the rest of the selection changes throughout the year. Morley explained that the offerings are dictated by the Indiana harvest. “Every other month we rotate our menu seasonally,” Morley said. “When rhubarb’s in season we have rhubarb, when raspberry is in season we have raspberry pie.”

For customers looking for savory options and a “easy recipe,” the shop sells frozen take-and-bake pot pies. Morley said that these allow customers to take credit for baking a fresh meal at home. “You baked it at home, so that is true,” Morley said.

The business recently expanded with a new location in early October at 54th Street and the Monon Trail. This outpost operates differently than the main bakery, serving as what Morley described as a “glorified concession stand.” The location features community-focused items such as local hot dogs, popcorn, milkshakes, ice cream, and tiny chicken pot pies. Old fashioned candies are also available.

“So after somebody is walking on the Monon Trail, after all the calories they’ve lost, they can come get some new treats!” Schooler said jokingly.

Pots & Pans Pie Company offers national shipping through Goldbelly. If interested in purchasing any products, be sure to check out their website and give them a follow on social media for monthly menu updates and more!
