Point Spread: Indiana Big Underdog vs. Penn State in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — There have been a lot of ups and downs during Mike Woodson’s three-plus years as head coach at Indiana, but one of the most disturbing trends is the Hoosiers’ inability to beat Penn State.
Woodson lost five of six games to the Nittany Lions before finally beating them 61-59 in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in Minneapolis, Minn. last season. And this is an average Penn State side that’s only made one NCAA Tournament (2023) during that run. Still, they have guards who pressure and make threes, and Indiana has struggled with rosters like that.
Oddsmakers are expecting more of the same on Sunday when the two teams hook up at The Palestra in Philadelphia for a Penn State alternate home game. According to the FanDuel.com gambling website, the 12-2 Nittany Lions are 6.5-point favorites over the Hoosiers (11-3). The over/under is 158.5.
The game starts at Noon ET and is televised on Big Ten Network. (How to watch story link below.) It’s the fifth time Penn State has played a Big Ten home game during the Christmas break at The Palestra, which was built in 1927 and is one of the most iconic building in the college game.
Indiana has been an underdog twice this season, and both ended badly, getting blown out late by both Gonzaga and Nebraska.
Here’s what we know so far about how Indiana and Penn State have fared against the point spread this season.
UPDATE … Rutgers is 12-2 on the season, and 2-1 in Big Ten games. They resumed league play on Thursday night with an 84-80 win over Northwestern in State College, Pa.
Penn State is just 6-8 against the spread this season. They’ve had an easy schedule, only playing two Power 5 teams in the nonconference schedule. They beat a 6-8 Virginia Tech team, but lost to Clemson., both from the ACC. Here’s what Penn State has done straight up and against the spread this season:

Brooklyn Nets vs. Indiana Pacers: How to Watch Game Preview, TV Channel, Betting Odds
The injury bug has bitten the Brooklyn Nets yet again just in time for a rematch with the Indiana Pacers. Brooklyn toppled the then-struggling Pacers back on Dec. 4, but much has changed for both squads since the 99-90 win at the Barclays Center.
ODDS:
The Nets enter the day as 9.5-point underdogs to the Pacers, and the total over/under is 222.5 points.
KEYS TO THE GAME:
1. Analyze the depth. As of 12 p.m. EST, the Nets are trending to be without Cam Johnson, Cam Thomas, Ben Simmons and D’Angelo Russell. The latter two are questionable but shouldn’t be expected to suit up. That foursome averages a combined 62.8 points per night, forcing the hosts to turn elsewhere for their scoring output.
2. Keep Haliburton inconsistent. After lifting Indiana to the conference finals in last year’s playoffs, Tyrese Haliburton has had the epitome of an up-and-down season. Some nights, he explodes for 30-plus points; others, he’s held to under 10. Whatever version of Haliburton shows up this evening will play a major impact on the game’s outcome.
3. Flow through Clax. If all four previously mentioned players remain out, Nic Claxton could become a focal point of Brooklyn’s offense. Recently, a large emphasis has been placed on getting the big man the ball in the pick-and-roll, creating an intriguing matchup between him and Myles Turner.

CenterPoint Energy provides update on winter storm impacts in Indiana
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Significant winter weather in CenterPoint Energy’s southwestern Indiana service area has caused widespread electric outages due to heavy ice and snow.
According to a press release, outages have increased steadily through Sunday evening, with approximately 5,000 customers without power at 5:30 p.m. to approximately 37,700 as of 9:30 p.m.
The increase in outages is largely due to ice accumulation and falling tree limbs impacting power lines.
Officials say crews have been working to assess damage and restore power as quickly and as safely as possible and have restored approximately 4,300 customers.
CenterPoint has deployed internal, contractor and mutual aid resources to assist with power restoration efforts.
Additional crews arrived Sunday morning and early afternoon and received onboarding and training to be deployed as soon as needed.
In restoring power, the company says they are prioritizing facilities vital to safety, health and welfare, such as hospitals, water treatment plants and public service facilities.
After addressing these critical needs, crews will focus on repairs that restore power to the largest number of customers first, continuing until all customers have power restored.
CenterPoint’s Vice President, Indiana Electric Shane Bradford released the following statement:
“Conditions across southwestern Indiana have been challenging due to ice accumulation and freezing rain. Our crews are working safely and making steady restoration progress, but the weather is creating recurring outages in some areas shortly after power is restored, as additional tree limbs and ice impact power lines. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers as we work to restore power as safely and quickly as possible. As hazardous conditions continue, crews are prioritizing safety as weather continues to impact our service area.”
CenterPoint’s natural gas system is operating as normal, and crews remain prepared to respond to any potential issues that may arise during the ongoing winter weather.
