Indiana women’s tennis’ season comes to an end in Big Ten Tournament

Indiana ladies’s tennis took on No. 60 Maryland within the second spherical of the Huge Ten Event on Thursday and suffered a fast finish to its postseason with a 4-0 loss. The matchup marks the second time the Hoosiers met the Terrapins this season, with the earlier matchup coming again on April 15. 

Just like the primary assembly, Indiana was unable to document a single level and was swept 4-0 for the second time this season by Maryland. The Hoosiers closed out their season with a 10-15 total document and Eleventh-place end within the Huge Ten standings. 

Thursday’s match shifted towards Maryland’s favor from the start. The Terrapins earned the doubles level in fast style, successful two straight doubles matches to begin the event. Maryland’s pairing of sophomore Minorka Miranda and graduate pupil Marta Perez Mur gained the primary doubles match by a rating of 6-2, taking down Indiana juniors Mila Mejic and Alexandra Staiculescu. 

The third doubles match was dominated as unfinished since Maryland was fast to safe the doubles level. 

Within the singles rounds, Maryland earned its first level by the No. 6 singles match. Junior Lexi Kubas was pressured to retire for an unknown cause, giving the Terrapins much more momentum. The Hoosiers struggled to rebound after that, shedding the No. 3 and No. 4 singles matches that adopted. 

Freshman Lara Schneider, sophomore Laura Masic and junior Rose Hu have been all in the midst of their singles matches when Maryland formally clinched the match and a berth into the third spherical. All of their matches have been dominated as unfinished.

Regardless of the early postseason exit, Indiana improved on final season’s 1-16 document, when it confronted solely Huge Ten opponents. The Hoosiers completed 3-8 in Huge Ten play.
