Magnitude 2.3 earthquake reported in southern Illinois
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Sick. — A magnitude 2.3 earthquake struck about 4 miles northwest of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Monday night, in response to america Geological Survey.

The quake occurred within the Illinois Basin – Ozark Dome area, which borders the New Madrid seismic zone. The area covers components of Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, and Arkansas and stretches from Indianapolis and St. Louis to Memphis.
