Five Tigers make MLB Pipeline’s updated list of top 100 prospects

The Detroit Tigers’ rebuild trudges on, but their farm system appears to be accumulating a talented group of prospects.

MLB Pipeline on Tuesday night unveiled its reranking of the top 100 prospects, with the Tigers boasting five players on the list, led by outfielder Max Clark at No. 7 and righthanded pitcher Jackson Jobe at No. 8.

The Tigers are one of three teams with two prospects in the top 10, joining the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays, and are one short of the sharing the top spot for most prospects in the top 100, trailing the Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Guardians, Seattle Mariners, Colorado Rockies and Minnesota Twins, who have six apiece.

Other Tigers in MLB Pipeline’s top 100 are infielder Kevin McGonigle (No. 33), shortstop Bryce Rainer (No. 61) and third baseman Jace Jung (No. 64).

MLB Pipeline’s reranking follows a similar update in late July from Baseball America, which placed six Tigers among its updated top 100. Single-A West Michigan starting pitcher Jaden Hamm also made Baseball America’s list, at No. 100.

Just like he was on Baseball America’s list, Jobe is the top-ranked pitcher, according to MLB Pipeline. The 22-year-old is at Double-A Erie. In 12 starts at 53.2 innings pitched there, he owns a 2.01 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 58 strikeouts. Erie opponents are hitting .167 off of him.

McGonigle was MLB Pipeline’s biggest debut for prospects not from July’s MLB Draft, after he was unranked in the preseason list. A second-round pick from 2023, McGonigle recently was promoted to West Michigan from low Single-A Lakeland with Clark, but hit the injured list this week with a right hamate fracture.

McGonigle is hitting a combined .309 in 272 at-bats between Lakeland and West Michigan, with a .401 on-base percentage and .853 OPS, and was considered a “significant” riser in Baseball America’s updated rankings. He was off to a slow start at West Michigan, hitting .214 in his first 14 games there.

Clark, the No. 3 overall pick from 2023, is hitting .295 since his promotion, after slashing .286/.386/.807 at Lakeland, with 26 stolen bases.

Rainer was the Tigers’ top pick in July, at No. 11 overall, while Jung has transitioned to third base at Triple-A Toledo, with 15 home runs and an .858 OPS.

MLB Pipeline also updated its top 30 lists for each team. Switch-hitting catcher Thayron Liranzo, acquired at the trade deadline in the package the Tigers received from the Los Angeles Dodgers for Jack Flaherty, is No. 6 among Tigers prospects, one of four prospects in the top 30 acquired at the deadline, joining righthander Joseph Montalvo (No. 18), shortstop Trey Sweeney (No. 20), and righthander Eric Silva (No. 29).

Liranzo and Montalvo are at West Michigan, Silva is at Erie and Sweeney at Toledo.

Detroit's UAW Files Labor Complaint Against Trump, Musk

DETROIT — The United Auto Workers union filed unfair labor charges against former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk.

The union filed the complaints after it said Trump and Musk encouraged the firing of striking workers during their “rambling, disorganized conversation” on X Monday night.

The union accuses the two of trying to intimidate and threaten its members.

“I mean, I look at what you do. You walk in, you say, ‘You want to quit?’ They go on strike, I won’t mention the name of the company, but they go on strike and you say, ‘That’s OK, you’re all gone. You’re all gone. So, every one of you is gone.,’” Trump told Musk during the conversation.

Union leaders also noted a company cannot fire its employees if they are on strike under the National Labor Relations Act, which is a federal law.

“When we say Donald Trump is a scab, this is what we mean. When we say Trump stands against everything our union stands for, this is what we mean,” United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain said in a news release.

Fain also blasted Musk, who is the CEO of Tesla, a nonunion company that the United Auto Workers has long sought to organize.

“Donald Trump will always side against workers standing up for themselves, and he will always side with billionaires like Elon Musk, who is contributing $45 million a month to a Super PAC to get him elected,” Fain said in the release. “Both Trump and Musk want working-class people to sit down and shut up, and they laugh about it openly. It’s disgusting, illegal and totally predictable from these two clowns.”

Musk has criticized unions by suggesting they create inequality among employees. Tesla is the only auto manufacturer in the U.S. whose workers are not unionized.

Moreover, Tesla has been accused of implementing policies that prevent workers from unionizing.

Fain publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris and Tim Walz for the upcoming U.S. Presidential Election at a Michigan rally last week.

Detroit's autonomous shuttle service begins Tuesday – here's where it goes

Autonomous shuttle in Detroit begins service

For the first time ever, a new driverless shuttle will be making its way through Detroit as part of a new pilot program to bring other transit options to the city. It began making trips early Tuesday morning.

DETROIT (FOX 2) – Detroit’s newest transit option kicked off service Tuesday, commencing its inaugural journey from Corktown to East Jefferson and back at 7 a.m.

It’s the beginning of autonomous transit on the city’s roads as a new pilot project looks to make it easier to get to downtown and back. The Connect AV Shuttle Service will follow a 10.8-mile loop Monday through Friday, making stops from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The product of millions of dollars in public and private funding, the city hopes the shuttle will make a “significant step” toward public transportation with zero emissions.

In addition to stopping in busy areas, the shuttles will be wheelchair-accessible and include live tracking, so passengers know when and where each vehicle is.

The shuttle will start with a driver to verify the autonomous function works. By fall, the new service will operate without a driver.

What is the route?

The route will span as far west as Michigan Central Station and as far east as Pensole Lewis College.

Along the way, it will stop at Atwater, Jefferson & Rivard, Campus Martius, Rivertown Market, and city hall.
