Metallica donates $70k to Detroit nonprofits following Ford Field shows for 130,000
Metallica donated $70,000 to two Detroit nonprofit organizations, the band announced following its pair of Ford Field shows this weekend.
Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeast Michigan received $35,000, which will provide about 100,000 meals to people in need, the organization said.
Also getting $35,000 from Metallica was Alternatives for Girls, a support group in southwest Detroit.
Another $30,000 from Metallica went to the Farmlink Project, which has been the main charitable partner on the band’s M72 World Tour. The California nonprofit directs surplus farm products to food banks.
The funds are being administered by Metallica’s All Within My Hands foundation.
Gleaners’ celebrity donors this year have also included Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen, who announced contributions during their Detroit tour stops.
Metallica’s Ford Field shows on Friday and Sunday drew about 130,000 total concertgoers, a band rep told the Detroit Free Press.
