MINNEAPOLIS — The Detroit Tigers wanted a spark.

Javier Báez missed 9 video games as a consequence of a lingering proper thumb damage and returned to the lineup Sunday. Two days later, the 29-year-old shortstop displayed his dynamism with a go-ahead, three-run house run in the eighth inning.

“Javy had an excellent evening on the plate,” Tigers supervisor A.J. Hinch stated Tuesday. “He did all the things he may to hold us tonight. It is good to see him swinging with some freedom, no points with the thumb.”
