CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The Ohio attorney general said Thursday he has filed a lawsuit against a Cleveland contractor accused of “pocketing customer payments.”

According to a news release, Joseph Vega did business under multiple company names, including, CLE Masonry, Ohio City Masonry and Ohio City Contractors.

Attorney General Dave Yost said Vega would demand additional money after selling masonry services, accepting deposits and starting work.

Then, according to the lawsuit, Vega would not finish the work and cease contact.

“A change in name doesn’t provide a clean slate,” Yost said. “This lawsuit should put unethical contractors on notice, that’s not how we operate in Ohio.”

Yost said his office received 12 consumer complaints ahead of the investigation. The lawsuit is calling for reimbursement among other fines.
