The Cleveland Cavaliers not only chose to not make any major moves this offseason, but they doubled down on their young core.

The Cavaliers agreed to contract extensions with Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, squelching all of the trade speculation that surrounded the group.

Well, for now.

Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley questions whether or not the polarizing frontcourt tandem of Allen and Mobley will stand the test of time and feels that is the biggest storyline for Cleveland heading into the 2024-25 NBA campaign.

“So, while things largely stayed the same in Cleveland this offseason, so did the debates about whether its two bigs can coexist,” Buckley wrote. “Mobley and Allen might share the same frontcourt for now, but the clock could be ticking on this twin-towers tandem.”

Fans and pundits have been doubting the long-term fit of Allen and Mobley for quite some time. While Mobley has certainly made an effort to expand his range to beyond the three-point line, the floor spacing of the Cavs’ frontcourt remains dubious.

As a result, some feel that the Cavaliers should break up their big man duo and bring in a player who better fits the modern NBA landscape.

If Cleveland does ultimately decide to move one of Allen or Mobley at some point, the former would almost certainly be the one to go, as Mobley has a higher ceiling, and the Cavs have more invested in the former No. 3 overall pick.

The Cavaliers are obviously willing to give their current roster another shot, but if they fail to progress this year, heads my end up rolling in The Land.

Janie Lynne Smart, 55, passed away on August 27, 2024, at the Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.

She was born on April 8, 1969, in Livonia, Michigan, the daughter of Kathleen (Thomas) Smart.

Janie graduated from John Glenn High School in 1987. She attended and received degrees from Michigan State University and Wayne State University.

 For the past four years she has worked as an Enrollment Specialist for Oakmont Education Orchard Park Academy in Cleveland, Ohio.

Janie enjoyed helping others, working out, listening to ABBA and true crime podcasts. Her true source of joy and happiness came from spending time with her daughters, she especially loved having coffee with her girls and just chatting about everyday life.

She is survived by her mother, Kathleen Smart; her daughters, Amy and Bridget Zell; her siblings, Amy (Smart) Posch and Timothy Smart; her former husband and dear friend, Jason Zell and many dear friends.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Alex Cobb was perfect in his return to the mound for the Guardians on Sunday until a one-hop smash base hit in the seventh inning Sunday knocked him out of the game.

Cobb, facing Pittsburgh afer being activated earlier in the day from the injured list, retired the first 18 batters he faced and took a perfect game into the seventh inning. Pirates infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa drilled him with a 101.9 mph grounder that hit his left wrist to open the inning. After facing one more batter, Cobb’s afternoon was over.

After convincing manager Stephen Vogt and Guardians trainers that he could stay in the game, Cobb surrendered a base hit to Brian Reynolds and was removed in favor of Cade Smith. Pittsburgh scored on a throwing error by Austin Hedges before Smith worked out of the inning.

Cobb opened the season on the injured list with San Francisco as he recovered from offseason hip surgery. His season debut was delayed by a shoulder injury and blisters. He was traded to Cleveland at the end of July and made a pair of starts before going back on the inured list with a split fingernail on his right hand.

He was brilliant through six innings against Pittsburgh, bidding to throw the first Cleveland no-hitter since Len Barker’s perfect game more than 43 years ago. Cobb became the sixth Cleveland pitcher to complete at least six perfect innings since Barker’s perfect game on May 15, 1981.

Cobb struck out six and retired the other 12 batters he faced on 11 ground balls and a fly ball.
