'No room for that mess in East Cleveland!' Calls for cooperation after shootings
EAST CLEVELAND, OH — As East Cleveland police continue searching for the shooter or shooters who wounded at least six people early Monday, a longtime resident and activist is calling for cooperation with investigators.
“We’re telling the outsiders right now, hell no,” said Art McKoy. “There’s no room for that kind of mess in East Cleveland and stop giving East Cleveland a bad rap.”
Police body camera video released Tuesday shows a chaotic scene as officers responded to one of the shootings outside a gas station at the corner of Shaw and Euclid Avenues just after 2:00 a.m. Monday.
Investigators said at least three people were shot at that location.
Police said three other victims were wounded in two other shootings that occurred within about 90 minutes early Monday morning.
All three of the shootings happened near Shaw High School and came hours after the conclusion of the school’s all-class reunion, an annual point of pride for East Cleveland residents.
Organizers said the shootings were not connected to the reunion, but McKoy was angered the event was followed by gunfire.
“I’m emotional about this because it’s my community,” said McKoy. “I have a business out here and I’ve been out here 40 years. I live in East Cleveland. I live a few blocks up from here. It’s not about us. We’re good people.”
East Cleveland’s police chief said investigators are reviewing surveillance video trying to identify the shooter or shooters.
So far, no one has been arrested in connection with the attacks.
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case. Anyone with tips is asked to call (216) 25-CRIME.

Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District police officer arrested, placed on leave
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A police officer for the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District was placed on leave after an arrest, according to Senior Public Information Specialist Jennifer Elting.
Shawn Willard was placed on paid administrative leave after an off-duty arrest Aug. 30.
According to the Cleveland Police report, officers were dispatched to the Forest City Yacht Club around 8 p.m. for a man being assaulted.
Officers were met by the victim who, according to the release, said he watched an intoxicated young man fall off a swimming platform of a boat and hit his head.
When the victim walked over to check on the young man, an intoxicated Willard, who was also on the boat, began to argue with him.
Willard then leaped off the boat, according to the report, and strangled the victim and pushed him into a park bench leaving him with cuts to his chin and leg.
The victim was treated by EMS, however witnesses reported seeing Willard leave the scene and walk to the Lakeside Yacht Club.
Officers located Willard at the Lakeshore Yacht Club, but when asked about the incident Willard said he had “no clue” and said he had been at the Lakeshore Yacht Club since 4 p.m.
Officer then asked Lakeshore Yacht Club to see the security camera footage which show Willard walking into the club with two people behind him at 8:15 p.m.
Cleveland Police charged Willard with a first-degree assault misdemeanor.
19News did find that Willard was previously employed by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority and the Put-In-Bay Police Department, according to OPATA.
19NewS has requested the court document in this case, but have not yet received them.
This is a developing story. Be sure to check back with 19News for updates.

Oh no! Another debate! Where’s the Valium? John Blumenthal
Normally, I’m a fairly relaxed person but during Presidential debates I often experience severe panic attacks. I first experienced this acute anxiety during Michael Dukakis’s debate loss to George H. W. Bush in 1988. Dukakis made an ill-advised remark that nearly made me choke on a pretzel. It haunted him throughout the rest of the campaign and arguably contributed to his defeat.
Since then, whenever my preferred candidate stumbles during a debate, my heart races, I perspire uncontrollably and my hands tremble. I frequently yell epithets at my flatscreen if my candidate gets stuck or misses an obvious opportunity to dispatch the opponent. I punch the air if my candidate nails the other debater with a zinger.

3 reasons the Cowboys could lose to the Browns
The NFL season is upon us, and the Dallas Cowboys are gearing up to face the Cleveland Browns in their Week 1 matchup. While the Cowboys have a relatively strong roster, several factors could work against them in this game. Let’s dive into the three key reasons why the Cowboys might struggle against the Browns, potentially costing them their season-opener.
The Cowboys’ offense relies heavily on the connection between quarterback Dak Prescott and star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. However, Lamb’s limited practice time due to his contract holdout could throw off their timing.
Without significant reps together, the passing game might look rusty to start the game. The Browns have one of the best defenses in the NFL, and they will capitalize if there are any timing issues between Lamb and Prescott.
New defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer brings a fresh scheme to the Cowboys’ defense. While this change could be positive, it can also bring confusion. The adjustment period for players to grasp the new system could lead to some miscommunications and blown coverages. Facing a talented Browns offense led by Deshaun Watson, they have the weapons to make Dallas pay if they are out of position.
MORE: 3 reasons the Cowboys will beat the Browns
Left tackle Tyler Guyton and center Cooper Beebe are both rookies slated to start on the Cowboys’ offensive line. Starting in your first professional game is a challenge in itself, let alone against one of the best defenses in football. Unfortunately for Guyton and Beebe, it will be a trial by fire when the reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett lines up across them.
If Guyton and Beebe struggle, it could ruin their entire gameplan. Garret can line up anywhere on the line and it will be a must that they don’t allow him to wreck the game.
While the Cowboys have the talent to come out of Cleveland with a victory, these three factors could tip the scales in favor of the Browns. To secure the win, Dallas will have to bring their A-game on Sunday.
