10,000 runners, spectators to partake in 46th annual Cleveland Marathon

CLEVELAND — The Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon is around the corner, with more than 10,000 runners, spectators and volunteers expected to participate.


What You Need To Know

  • The weekend of festivities technically starts Friday with the Health and Fitness Expo at the Huntington Convention Center
  • A handful of races are taking place over the weekend for the marathon
  • Many streets will be closed off for the races temporarily

The weekend of festivities technically starts Friday with the Health and Fitness Expo at the Huntington Convention Center, where runners can pick up their race packets from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Runners can also pick up their packets on Saturday from 9 p.m. to 6 p.m.

On Saturday and Sunday, there’s a handful of races taking place. 

The Union Home Mortgage Cleveland 5K & 10K will be Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. starting on St. Clair at Mall B. The Kids Run, presented by University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s, will also be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the same location.

Then on Sunday, the Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon and the University Hospital’s Cleveland Half Marathon both start at 7 a.m., also on St. Clair at Mall B. 

Many streets will be closed off for the races temporarily. Here’s what will be closed and for how long:

Saturday road closures

From 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

  • St. Clair between East 12th to West 9th
  • West 9th between St. Clair and Lakeside
  • Lakeside between West 6th and West 3rd
  • West 3rd between Lakeside to Erieside
  • East 9th between Erieside to Euclid
  • East 12th between St. Clair to Euclid
  • Euclid between East 9th to East 22nd
  • Superior from West 6th to East 23rd
  • East 17th from Superior to Euclid
  • East 18th between Superior to Euclid
  • East 21st between Superior to Euclid
  • East 22nd between Superior to Euclid

From midnight to 3 p.m.:

  • St. Clair from East 6th to Ontario
  • St. Clair from East 6th to West 9th
  • West 9th from St. Clair to Superior

From 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.

  • Superior from West 9th to East 18th
  • East 9th from Superior to Euclid
  • Euclid from East 9th to East 22nd

From 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.

  • East 22nd from Euclid to Payne
  • Payne from East 22nd to East 18th
  • East 13th from Payne to Chester
  • Chester from East 13th to East 12th
  • East 12th from Chester to Superior
  • East 18th from Superior to Lakeside

From 6 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

  • Lakeside from East 18th to West 3rd
  • East 9th from Lakeside to Erieside
  • Erieside from East 9th to West 3rd

From 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.

  • West 3rd from Erieside to Lakeside
  • West 9th from Lakeside to Front
  • Old River Road from Front to Carter

From 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

  • Scranton from Carter to Starkweather
  • West 14th from Kenilworth to Buhrer
  • Buhrer from West 14th to West 11th
  • West 11th from Buhrer to Clark
  • Clark from West 11th to West 14th
  • Kenilworth from West 14th to West 11th

From 6 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.

  • West 11th from Kenilworth to Starkweather
  • Starkweather from Scranton to Jefferson
  • Jefferson from Starkweather to Professor
  • Professor from Jefferson to Fairfield
  • Fairfield from Professor to West 11th

From 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

  • Abby from West 11th to West 19th

From 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

  • Lorain/Carnegie Bridge from West 20th to Ontario (Eastbound traffic maintained)
  • Ontario from Carnegie to Huron (Northbound traffic maintained; one lane southbound maintained)
  • West Huron from Ontario to Superior (Eastbound traffic maintained for buses)

From 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.

  • West 28th from Detroit to Bridge
  • Bridge from West 28th to West 38th
  • West 38th from Bridge to Franklin
  • Franklin from West 38th to West 44th
  • West 44th from Franklin to Bridge
  • Bridge from West 44th to West 48th

From 6 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

  • West 48th from Bridge to Clinton

From 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Detroit from Superior to West 74th (Hard closure until 12 p.m. then partial as necessary)

From 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Shoreway from East 55th to West Boulevard (Westbound will open at 1:30 p.m.)
