Spirit plane towed after brakes overheat, ignite

ATLANTA, Georgia — Passengers aboard a Spirit Airways flight from Tampa are secure after one of many airplane’s brakes overheated and briefly caught fireplace upon touchdown in Atlanta on Sunday, airport officers stated.

The brakes within the touchdown gear of Spirit Airways flight 383 from Tampa ignited upon touchdown, officers at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Worldwide Airport wrote in a tweet concerning the incident. Atlanta firefighters put out the hearth and the airplane was towed to the gate for passengers to disembark, airport officers stated.

Spirit Airline stated one of many brakes on the airplane overheated. No passengers have been injured, the airline stated.

Video posted on social media confirmed smoke coming from below the airplane at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Worldwide Airport.

Scottie Nelms, a passenger on the airplane and instructed FOX 5 that the flight was uneventful till after touchdown and passengers heard a bizarre noise from the left aspect of the airplane.”

No person knew what it was till we stopped fully in the course of the touchdown strip,” Nelms instructed FOX 5. “We noticed a flame coming from the engine and folks and myself began freaking out.”
