Orlando FreeFall ride will be taken down following Florida teen’s amusement park death in March
ORLANDO, Fla. — A Florida drop tower amusement park trip from which a 14-year-old boy fell to his loss of life in March will likely be taken down, the trip’s operator stated Thursday.
The choice to take down the 430-foot-tall Orlando FreeFall tower and trip at ICON Park outdoors Orlando was made due to Tyre Sampson’s March 24 loss of life, the operator stated in a web-based assertion.

The trip, which had opened solely months earlier than Tyre’s loss of life, has been closed since. No timeline for taking down the trip has been decided, the assertion reads.
“We’re devastated by Tyre’s loss of life. We’ve listened to the needs of Tyre’s household and the group, and have made the choice to take down the FreeFall,” Ritchie Armstrong, an official with trip operator Orlando Slingshot, stated within the assertion. “As well as, Orlando Slingshot will honor Tyre and his legacy within the classroom and on the soccer area by making a scholarship in his title.”
