Northwestern Chicago campus ‘active threat’ over; carjacking suspect arrested in basement

CHICAGO (WLS) — Northwestern College’s Chicago campus was briefly locked down Monday after a carjacking suspect ran right into a college constructing.

A textual content alert despatched to employees and college students Monday afternoon warned them to “run, conceal, combat,” “take correct shelter” and “lock and/or barricade doorways.”

The alert was despatched out after police mentioned a carjacking suspect deserted a stolen automobile close to Lake Shore Drive and Chicago Avenue round 1:30 p.m.

Chicago law enforcement officials pursued the suspect on foot after he ran right into a Northwestern Memorial Hospital constructing, in response to CPD spokesperson Tom Ahern.

Ahern mentioned the suspect was positioned and brought into custody after a “quick search.” It isn’t clear if he was armed on the time, however police tweeted a photograph of a gun that was recovered from the stolen automobile.
