12th Ward Alderman George Cardenas resigns, set for seat on Cook County Board of Review
CHICAGO (WLS) — Alderman George Cardenas, who represents Chicago’s twelfth Ward, introduced his resignation in a letter to Mayor Lori Lightfoot.
He is set to sit down on the Prepare dinner County Board of Overview after Tuesday’s elections, as he is operating unopposed.
Cardenas’ resignation is efficient Nov. 30, his letter stated. Cardenas has represented the Southwest Aspect ward, which incorporates McKinley Park, Brighton Park and a part of Little Village, since 2003.

In his resignation letter, Cardenas cited tasks he labored on throughout his time as alderman and stated he’s “leaving many extra tasks and initiatives within the pipeline that can present social and financial alternatives and advantages for years to come back.”
“I’ve had the privilege of working to uplift the communities of the twelfth Ward, and I’m happy with the legacy this work leaves behind,” Cardenas stated.
