MINNEAPOLIS — A regent, a regulation professor and former Gov. Arne Carlson are demanding state and federal companies examine College of Minnesota President Joan Gabel’s function on a monetary board.

Regent Darrin Rosha, College of Minnesota regulation professor Richard Painter and Carlson despatched a letter to the U.S. Securities and Trade Fee and the state legal professional common alleging Gabel’s place on Securian Monetary’s board is a battle of curiosity, the Star Tribune reported Friday.

The college pays about $4.6 million yearly to Securian Monetary affiliate Minnesota Life to cowl worker life insurance coverage. Rosha, Painter and Carlson say of their letter that Gabel’s place on the board raises questions on who’s serving college staff’ pursuits.

Gabel stated in a press release to the Star Tribune that the letter is inaccurate and deceptive. She stated she went by the college’s battle administration course of earlier than accepting the board place.

The Board of Regents voted 9-3 earlier this month to permit Gabel to affix the board. She agreed to recuse herself from any choices on contracts between the college and Securian Monetary and associates. Rosha was one of many three regents who voted no.

Securian spokesperson Jeff Bakken stated Gabel’s place as college president wasn’t a think about Gabel’s board appointment.
