The Twin Cities were chosen to host the event on Tuesday at the meeting of franchise owners in Orlando, the culmination of what Vikings president and CEO Mark Wilf described as a “terrific opportunity.” Minnesota hosted the Super Bowl in February 2018 and becomes the final NFC North division team to be chosen as the draft stage.
“Minnesota knows how to show up for big moments, and we’ve experienced it firsthand,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement Tuesday. “Working with the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Sports and Events, we look forward to bringing the 2028 NFL Draft to this great community, driving positive economic impact throughout the region, and hosting an incredible event for fans and the next generation of the NFL.”
The 2026 draft took place in Pittsburgh last month, with the 2027 event scheduled for the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
Wilf and the draft host city planning committee noted events will be held outside of downtown Minneapolis, where U.S. Bank Stadium is located. A portion of the event will take place near the team’s headquarters and practice facility and at other spots to be determined within the Twin Cities.
“For three days, Minnesota will become the center of the football world,” Wilf said. “The 2028 NFL Draft will give us an opportunity to showcase not just U.S. Bank Stadium, but the energy, hospitality and pride that define Minneapolis-St. Paul and the entire state and region. We have no doubt the community will deliver a world-class event that is unique to Minnesota.”
The NFL conducted the annual draft in New York until opting to take the show on the road in 2015. The extremely popular road show changes locations each year.
Since then, the draft has been held in the home cities of 10 franchises: the Bears, Eagles, Cowboys, Titans, Browns, Raiders, Chiefs, Lions, Packers and Steelers.
The 2020 draft was held virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Pittsburgh set the record for largest total attendance in NFL draft history with 805,000 attendees over three days from April 23-25. Organizers in Washington, D.C., have said they expect a crowd of more than 1 million people.
Cincinnati is reportedly the leading contender to host the 2029 NFL Draft.
Nashville officially to host 2030 Super Bowl
The honky-tonks will be packed to the rafters when the Super Bowl comes to Nashville in 2030.
NFL owners officially approved Nashville as the site for Super Bowl LXIV, which is scheduled to be played in February of 2030. The game will take place at the Tennessee Titans’ new stadium, which is currently under construction.
It is the first time Tennessee’s largest city will play host to the NFL’s championship game.
The vote on Tuesday during the NFL Spring League Meeting at Orlando, Fla., was conducted with a full representation of ownership.
“Music City,” as it is known, turned out fans in droves for the 2019 NFL Draft, setting what was then an attendance record for the event.
“The 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville was one of the greatest fan events in our history,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a release. “Super Bowl LXIV at the new stadium is the next step in this remarkable football journey. … We can’t wait to put on an unforgettable show in 2030.”
The new Nissan Stadium is a $2.1 billion, fully enclosed, 60,000-seat venue on the Cumberland River. The structure will feature an innovative cable-net ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) roof and is scheduled to open by February 2027.
“This is an exciting moment for our city and our entire state,” Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk said. “We cannot wait for our community to experience an event of this magnitude and for the world to see the energy, hospitality, and culture that make our city so special on a global stage.”
A country-music themed halftime show would be a natural for a city whose downtown bars have no shortage of acts specializing in the genre. Nashville is home to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, as well as the Grand Ole Opry.
“This event is an incredible opportunity to showcase the dynamic and creative character … that is distinctly Music City, where music, sports, culture, and hospitality come together in a way few cities can match,” Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. president & CEO Deana Ivey said.
Teams constructing new stadiums have frequently been under consideration for hosting the Super Bowl, with Detroit, East Rutherford, N.J., and Minneapolis cracking the typical warm-weather city rotation in recent years.
In February 2027, Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium is hosting the Super Bowl for the second time. In March, the NFL announced Las Vegas as the host city in 2029 for the second time since Allegiant Stadium was constructed. Atlanta hosts in 2028.
NFL approves 10 international games
NFL owners approved on Tuesday a maximum of 10 league-run international regular-season games per season, an increase from eight annually, starting as soon as 2027.
“There’s a path to 10 (international games) in 2027,” executive vice president of club business, international and league events Peter O’Reilly said from the NFL’s spring league meeting in Orlando, Fla.
The owners also voted to take away a team’s ability to protect two home games from international play. That should make it less complicated to construct the schedule.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has said the goal is 16 international games, which could lead to at least one such game per team in a given season. The league can play as many as 10 games outside the United States, according to the collective bargaining agreement with the NFL Players Association.
The 2026 schedule has a record nine international games – eight run by the league and one in London after an agreement between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Wembley Stadium. The Jaguars have consecutive games in London, including one as the home team, while EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville is undergoing renovations.
O’Reilly said that the exception made for nine games this season “shows the momentum and I think the support for the model we have” and he could see a future with 16 international games in one season.
The 2026 slate features games across four continents, including first-time host countries France (Paris) and Australia (Melbourne). Rio de Janeiro is a host city for the first time, while other games with be in London (three), Munich (one), Madrid (one) and Mexico City (one).
O’Reilly said that Asian markets such as Japan could be future sites, but probably not as soon as 2027.
“Our strategy is not one and done,” O’Reilly said. “Our goal is to go back to those markets that we’re establishing.”
A Super Bowl at an international site is not a priority at this time, he said.

July 19 (UPI) — A total of 19 people were injured during early morning mass shootings in entertainment districts in the U.S. cities of Tucson and Minneapolis, authorities said Sunday.
Tucson Police Department officers were on foot patrol in the city’s downtown area around 2 a.m. local time when they heard gunfire and ran toward a crowded scene, police spokesman Frank Magos told reporters.
There they encountered a male suspect and ordered him to drop his weapon, he said.
After repeating the order several times, an officer shot and injured the suspect, who was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
Magos described the suspect as a local man whose identity was being withheld.
Police said all nine of the hospitalized victims were adults and that most of them sustained injuries to their extremities.
A 10th person suffered minor injuries.
Meanwhile in Minneapolis, nine adults were injured in a shooting outside a nightclub in the city’s Uptown district early on Sunday, according to interim Minneapolis Police Chief Bill Peterson.
Two of the male victims sustained potentially life-threatening injuries, he told reporters.
The first officers arrived on the scene in less than a minute after the initial gunfire reports and found “a chaotic scene, with multiple victims and a large crowd.
“This was a brazen act of violence in a crowded entertainment district where innocent people were placed at tremendous risk that is absolutely unacceptable,” Peterson said.
Tucson Mayor Regina Romero called the incident in her city “another serious and senseless act of gun violence.
“A shooter recklessly began shooting in a crowded area striking nine people before being stopped by a Tucson Police Officer,” she said in a statement. “Thanks to the quick actions and excellent care provided by our fire fighters and police officers, all victims were stabilized and taken to the hospital where we are hopeful they will all recover.”
The mayor blamed “easy access to guns” and “Arizona’s weak gun safety laws” for continuing to “put all of us at risk. From requiring universal background checks to extreme risk laws to funding violence prevention there is more lawmakers can and should do.”
“I’m heartbroken to learn that nine people were shot early this morning in downtown Tucson,” added former Arizona congresswoman and gun control advocate Gabby Giffords, whose political career was cut short when she was nearly shot to death during an attempted assassination.
“Too many lives have been changed forever because of America’s gun violence crisis, in my hometown and across the nation,” she said in a statement. “[Husband and U.S. senator] Mark [Kelly] and I are grateful for the bravery of Tucson’s first responders as we await more information and hold all those impacted in our hearts.”
Minneapolis police are investigating after a mass shooting seriously injured three people and wounded six others outside a nightclub in the Uptown neighborhood early Sunday morning.
According to police, officers responded shortly before 12:30 a.m. to a report of a shooting outside Reign Event Center, which is located on the 2900 block of Hennepin Avenue.
Police from all five precincts were called in to respond due to the number of victims and the crowd outside the club. According to preliminary information, gunfire erupted outside the club following an altercation, police say, with a large crowd present during the shooting.
At the scene, officers found four people suffering injuries. They included a 20-year-old man with potentially life-threatening injuries, and three others with apparent non-life threatening injuries. The latter three were a 21-year-old man and two women, ages 22 and 27.
Police say four additional people arrived at Abbot Northwestern Hospital, including a 21-year-old man with potentially life-threatening injuries. Three other men, ages 20, 21 and 22, had non-life threatening injuries.
According to police, a man whose age has not been released was transferred by ambulance to Hennepin Healthcare with potentially life-threatening injuries.
There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing. Police are looking into whether gunshots were fired from a vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to call the police or CrimeStoppers.

Minnesota’s Clearest Lake Near Minneapolis Is A Gem With Fishing, Kayaking, And A Quaint Park – Islands
In Minnesota, every season is fishing and lake season. Those who live there will boast that the state actually has over 21,000 lakes, and that the official counter ignores those under 10 acres. Just north of Stillwater, the “birthplace of Minnesota,” is a lake that’s recently been found to have the clearest water in the Twin Cities area, Little Carnelian Lake. Located about 40 minutes away from Minneapolis, data analyzed by Discover the Cities in 2025 has shown that this lake has a water clarity of between 18.7 and 26 feet. That’s really impressive for a lake with an average depth of only 26 feet (its maximum is thought to be closer to 70 feet). Similarly, this lake in the watershed of the St. Croix River has also been found to rank among the cleanest in the Twin Cities Area, only beaten by places such as Bass Lake, Lake Elmo, and Bush Lake.
Little Carnelian Lake is right next to the similarly named Big Carnelian Lake, which was also found to have clean water. When most people go to the area, they choose this lake instead, meaning that visitors to its smaller counterpart will likely encounter fewer people. Your fishing or kayaking experience here, and at its park of the same name, will probably be more private.
Fishing at Little Carnelian Lake
When visiting Little Carnelian Lake, fishing is one of the premier activities. Visitors here are welcome to fish from the shore, from a small boat, or on the ice during the winter. Ice fishing, a seasonal favorite in Minnesota, is reported to be possible on the south end of the lake, while the north end has creeks that lead to cracks in the ice.
Those who visit Little Carnelian Lake will find an abundance of classic Minnesota lakefish species. These include northern pike, largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, bullhead, and yellow perch, with the state’s Department of Natural Resources reporting that bluegills are most plentiful.
When fishing here, as well as anywhere in Minnesota, one of the most important things to keep in mind is mercury content in fish. Even though Little Carnelian Lake is one of the cleanest in the Twin Cities area, its fish still contain mercury due to environmental pollution.
Little Carnelian Park is great for kayaking, canoeing, and relaxation
Little Carnelian Lake has a quaint park attached to it called Little Carnelian Park, which is maintained by Stillwater, one of America’s most charming river towns and most affordable retirement destinations. It’s from this park that access to the lake is provided for those who want to enjoy it. Although there’s no public boat access, meaning that larger vehicles can’t be brought into the water here, canoes and kayaks can still be launched from the shoreline. To access this shoreline, visitors can follow a small trail that leads to the water’s edge. Those who don’t have their own kayak can first head to Square Lake Park; this popular body of water nearby offers kayak rentals.
Whenever you’re kayaking, canoeing, or fishing here, keep in mind that there’s no lifeguard. Those who want to stay on shore can enjoy benches and places to sit here. There’s also wildlife viewing, as deer have been spotted in the park before.
Limited parking is available at Little Carnelian Park. One should keep in mind before visiting that this park does not allow dogs, alcohol, or motor vehicles on its grounds. There are no amenities beyond a portable toilet. Also, note that there are many private properties along the lakefront; much of the shore is in a residential area, so visitors must be respectful.
