Georgia weather-related road closures
ATLANTA – With Winter Storm Fern expected to bring significant icing across parts of North Georgia and the Atlanta metro, officials are warning people to stay off the roads if at all possible, even closing some roads ahead of the storm.
Timeline:
The system is expected to move into North Georgia and metro Atlanta Saturday afternoon. Forecasters expect total ice accumulations between a quarter of an inch and one inch, with wind gusts up to 30 mph. Officials with Georgia Emergency Management warn that the strength of this weather system could trigger widespread, multi-day power outages and make travel “impossible” across the northern half of the state.
The biggest impacts may carry into the Monday morning commute, even after the storm begins to move out.

Two Georgia men accused of armed home invasion in Cliffside Park
What happens when someone is arrested and charged with a crime?
When someone is arrested and charged with a crime, police departments observe a protocol that includes the reading of Miranda Rights.
Police arrested a Georgia man and teenager on charges that stem from an alleged armed home invasion in Cliffside Park in the spring of 2025.
Deterrieynn Lewis, 24, of Lithonia, Georgia, and an 18-year-old man, who officials said was 17 years old at the time of the alleged crime, were arrested and charged on Jan. 20, 2026.
On May 9, 2025, at around 8:50 p.m., an armed burglary was reported to a home on Columbia Avenue, said a release from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. Police said the suspects fled the scene before authorities arrived.
Officials said surveillance footage revealed three masked men, two with firearms, were inside the home. The men are accused of stealing luxury purses before fleeing in a black Kia Sorento.
The BCPO said Lewis and the juvenile were two of the people involved in the burglary with a third suspect still at large.
Lewis has been charged with first-degree home invasion burglary, first-degree use of a juvenile to commit a criminal offense and multiple other weapons offenses. He was taken to DeKalb County Jail pending extradition to Bergen County.
The 18-year-old has been charged with first-degree home invasion burglary and other weapons offenses under juvenile delinquency. He is also in Georgia custody pending extradition to Bergen County.

Four dead after shooting in Georgia home — as cops find terrified kids hiding in closet
Four people were found shot dead Friday morning inside of a Georgia home, where police also discovered three terrified young children hiding in a closet.
The children were reportedly present when gunfire rang out around 2:30 a.m. at the home on Brook Ivy Court in Lawrenceville, a city about 30 miles northeast of Atlanta, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.
The children retreated to the closet to protect themselves and one of them managed to call 911,
When police arrived minutes later they found four adults inside dead with gunshot wounds, according to the Gwinnett County Police.
The children were found in the closet unharmed.
They were later picked up by a family member.
Their relationship to the victims was not immediately clear.
Police tracked down the suspect, whose vehicle was still in the victims’ driveway, to a woodline short distance from the home with K9 officers.
He was taken into custody without incident, cops said.

Neither the suspected gunman nor the victims have been identified.
The motive remains under investigation but the shooting “appears to be domestic related,” police said.
Police noted there had been prior calls for service at the household, according to Fox 5.
There are no outstanding suspects, cops confirmed.
