Kentucky WBB wins second consecutive game 73-65 against Missouri on the road
Kentucky defeated Georgia in its last game out, and in order to try to secure a double-bye in the SEC Tournament, the Cats need to keep racking up wins where they can, and event though it was on the road, Thursday’s matchup against Missouri was just one of those games that Kentucky desperately needed to win.
Fortunately, Kentucky got the job done, taking down Missouri 73-65 in Columbia as Kenny Brooks‘ squad moved to 21-4 (10-3 SEC).
The game begun with Kentucky trailing because, again, they were being outmatched on the boards. Missouri would have a 13-6 lead on the boards overall and a 5-1 lead on the offensive glass following the first 10 minutes of play. Clara Strack was caught up in a scuffle down low, and following an official review that rescinded the intentional foul on her, the Cats would go on a 6-2 run to knot things at 18 apiece to end the first quarter.
Quarter number two was more of the same — Kentucky struggling to make shots and struggling to crash the boards. The Cats were just 1-8 from three-point range in the first half too, which certainly didn’t help. Georgia Amoore had just four points at the half on 1-8 (0-3 3PT) shooting.
Kentucky was looking at yet another upset to a bottom feeder SEC team on the road.
The third quarter was a much better one for Kentucky for the most part. At one point, the Cats went on a 9-0 run that was fueled in large part by Teonni Key. She had 13 points at the end of the third quarter.
Kentucky would proceed to close things out in the fourth quarter and escape Columbia with a win. For roughly 30-35 minutes of the game, Kentucky wasn’t playing up to their standards. However, the Cats turned things up to secure their 21st win overall and 10th in conference play.
Next up on the schedule is No. 7 LSU (25-2, 10-2 SEC) on Sunday. Kentucky will take on Kim Mulkey’s Tigers at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN in front of a sold out crowd in Historic Memorial Coliseum.
