WVU Medicine sponsors WV state hockey championships at WesBanco Arena this weekend

The West Virginia State Hockey Championships presented by WVU Medicine, an event that celebrates middle and high school hockey in the state, has a new sponsor in WVU Medicine.

WVU Medicine wanted to collaborate to support its commitment to health, wellness, and community engagement in West Virginia.

The championships will take place on Friday-Sunday at WesBanco Arena and will feature local teams, including Linsly, Wheeling Central, and Wheeling Park.

Collegiate club squads like West Virginia University and the Wheeling Nailers will also play at WesBanco Arena this weekend. The hope is to shine a light on hockey skills of students throughout the mountain state.

“With the football tournament moving from Wheeling to Charleston we partnered with Wheelhouse Creative to do something for the community,” Wheeling Central Head Coach P.J. Ratliffe said. “Obviously, with the Nailers being here, we wanted it in a world class arena with all of the upgrades they’ve done to it. It’s just important to help out our region with h the kids and all that good stuff.”

“The majority of the history with West Virginia hockey is in Wheeling, so I think it is really important that it stays here and that all the best players from around the state come here to play and our residents here can be there and support them,” Wheeling Park Assistant Coach Shayne Wilson said.

Bill’s Towing will also be providing free tickets to all students attending the championship. To find out more about the tournament, tap or click HERE.
