Shooting inside Indiana supermarket leaves 3 dead, with 2 officers sustaining injuries
A shooter who opened fire inside an Elkhart, Indiana supermarket on Monday evening is dead after killing two people and injuring two police officers, according to authorities.
The Elkhart Police Department told Fox News Digital that officers responded to Martin’s Super Market on E. Jackson Boulevard at about 5:30 p.m. for reports of a shooting.

When the officers and emergency medical service crews arrived, two people were found inside the supermarket suffering from gunshot wounds. Police said the two victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
The officers then engaged in gunfire with a third person believed to be the suspect who was ultimately shot and killed, police said.

Two officers sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter and were transported to an area hospital where they were listed in stable condition.
“It’s a sad day in Elkhart,” Jessica McBrier, public information officer for the Elkhart Police Department said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the people affected.”

McBrier also said there is no further threat to the community.
The District Attorney’s homicide unit is handling the investigation.
Elkhart is about 20 miles east of South Bend – the home of the University of Notre Dame in northern Indiana.

The latest effects of Caitlin Clark’s presence in Indianapolis were revealed in a new report from Sportico.

That is a 522% increase and means the Fever are worth six times as much now as compared to before they drafted Clark.
The Fever open their 2026 regular season on Saturday, May 9 from Gainbridge Fieldhouse against Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings. With Clark back and healthy, the Fever’s franchise value can be expected to grow even further.
Indiana’s season opener against the Wings tips off at noon CT and will be nationally broadcast on ABC.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A University of Iowa student critically injured in an April 19 shooting at the Pedestrian Mall is off a ventilator after multiple surgeries.
Miranda, who suffered the most serious injuries in the shooting, was taken off a ventilator and breathing through her tracheostomy with oxygen support as needed, according to a May 2 update on a GoFundMe page organized by her sister, Janjay Peters. The fundraiser has raised more than $195,000.
Doctors said if Miranda continues to do well with her breathing, she may be moved out of the ICU soon. The family expressed appreciation for the support they have been receiving.
The shooting happened at the Pedestrian Mall in Iowa City, around 1:45 a.m. on April 19. Five people were hurt, one critically.
Iowa City Police said 17-year-old Damarian Jones of Cedar Rapids was involved in a fight before he retrieved a gun from another person and fired six shots into the crowd, hitting five people.
Authorities said there is no evidence Jones targeted any of the victims, and none were involved in the initial fight.
Iowa City Police are still searching for Jones. He is facing five counts of attempted murder among several other charges.
The Iowa City Police Department said it expects to arrest more people in addition to the charges for Jones.
