Danny Kanell reacts to Texas toppling Georgia as No. 1 team in AP Poll
Room for CONCERN with Georgia Bulldogs after Kentucky Win? Dawgs Offense Prepping for Alabama
Texas overtook Georgia on Sunday as the new No. 1 in the AP Poll. That’s bad news for the rest of college football, though, according to Danny Kanell.
Kanell gave his opinion of the flip of the Longhorns and Bulldogs at No. 1 and No. 2 in the latest poll in a tweet this afternoon. He says it’s exactly the motivation that Kirby Smart can use to get a point across to his team.

“Kirby Smart should send every single AP voter who voted Texas #1 some flowers,” tweeted Kanell. “Exactly what he needs to create that chip on the shoulder…”

Texas had slightly jumped to No. 2 last week over Ohio State with four first-place votes to give them a total of 1,492 points. That was still well behind the 54 first-place votes for Georgia with their point total of 1,566.
However, that flipped this week. The Longhorns received 35 first-place votes over the 23 for the Bulldogs. That gave Texas a total of 1,540 points to create another small margin of 22 points between them and Georgia at 1,518 to give them the top spot in the AP Poll.
It now represents the highest ranking for the Longhorns in the poll since 2008.
Texas earned this rating after a third impressive victory to open their season. They’ve won by an average of 40 points per game in their 3-0 start. That includes their 31-12 win over No. 10 Michigan in The Big House as well as the 56-7 outcome this weekend against UTSA.
As for Georgia, their first two weeks were equally excellent with a 31-point win over No. 14 Clemson and a 48-3 win over Tennessee Tech. Still, the ‘Dawgs nearly suffered their first regular-season loss in almost four years in the bluegrass last night. They entered the fourth quarter behind but managed to survive with a 13-12 victory over Kentucky.
These two teams in the SEC are viewed among the very best in the nation. Still, at No. 2 instead of No. 1 now without a loss yet, Kanell thinks Smart can use this to his advantage with the Bulldogs.
The latest AP Top-25 rankings are in after the third weekend of college football and there were some shake-ups.

LSU Falls to Georgia in Series Finale
ATHENS, Ga. – Designated hitter Daniel Jackson and centerfielder Rylan Lujo combined for nine RBI Sunday, leading fifth-ranked Georgia to a 12-1 win over LSU at Foley Field.
Georgia improved to 41-11 overall, 21-6 in the SEC, while LSU dropped to 29-24 overall and 9-18 in conference play.
The Tigers return to action at 6:30 p.m. CT Thursday when they play host to Florida in Game 1 of a three-game SEC series in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. Thursday’s game will be broadcast on the LSU Sports Radio Network and streamed on SEC Network +.
“Georgia won the moments in this series,” said LSU coach Jay Johnson. “They’re going to score, so you’ve got to capitalize against them when you have scoring opportunities on offense.”
Georgia starting pitcher Caden Aoki (8-0) was the winner, limiting LSU to one run on four hits in 5.0 innings with two walks and seven strikeouts.
LSU right-hander Casan Evans (2-3), making his first appearance since April 17 versus Texas A&M, started the game Sunday and was charged with the loss, working 1.2 innings and allowing four runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
“I thought Casan’s stuff looked great, and that’s good for him from a health standpoint,” Johnson said. “He’s a guy that the more he pitches, the better he is, so there might have been a little bit of rust, but I thought he competed fine.”
Georgia struck for four runs in the bottom of the second inning in an outburst highlighted by Jackson’s two-out, two-run single and an RBI single by second baseman Ryan Black.
The Tigers narrowed the gap to 4-1 in the third when designated hitter Omar Serna Jr. delivered an RBI single.
Georgia extended its lead to 7-1 in the fourth as Jackson launched a two-run homer and centerfielder Lujo lined a run-scoring single.
Lujo unloaded a grand slam in the fifth, giving the Bulldogs an 11-1 advantage.
