JetBlue adding new flights from Florida to New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine. Here’s where
JetBlue will serve Long Island’s MacArthur Airport
JetBlue announced it will begin nonstop air service from Long Island MacArthur Airport.
Fox – 5 NY
JetBlue has announced it’s adding new Florida flights, bringing their totals up to more than 225 daily flights from airports in Florida by February.
This comes after JetBlue cut some flights in Florida. Eight routes from Fort Lauderdale were eliminated in June, a Miami-Los Angeles flight was dropped and the airline announced this week it was canceling a direct flight service from Tallahassee to Fort Lauderdale, due to a “lack of customer demand.”
The biggest additions will be to New England states, adding service to Florida from Manchester-Boston Regional Airport in New Hampshire with daily flights to Orlando, and seasonal service to Fort Myers and Fort Lauderdale starting in January 2025.
The T.F. Greene Airport in Providence, Rhode Island will be getting winter seasonal flights to Fort Myers and Tampa, starting at the end of October. Portland International Jetport in Maine is also adding a seasonal flight at the same time.
It will also get easier to get to and from New York starting in October, with seasonal service from Buffalo Niagara International Airport to Palm Beach International Airport and second daily flights added from both Buffalo and Albany to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando. Syracuse will get a second daily flight to Orlando.
Also starting in October, JetBlue will begin flights from Long Island MacArthur Airport daily to Orlando, and four times a week to Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.
“With these additions, JetBlue continues to reinforce its standing as a leading carrier offering service throughout Florida,” the release said. “This growth not only demonstrates JetBlue’s commitment to the region, but also exemplifies its plan to refocus the airline’s network into leisure and VFR (visiting friends and relatives) flying; adding more options for customers to fly to the many top travel destinations the state has to offer.”

SNAP benefits will be changing in Florida starting Monday
TAMPA, Fla – New SNAP restrictions will start Monday in Florida.
What we know:
These changes will ban the purchase of many sugary sodas, energy drinks, candy and ultra-processed, shelf-stable prepared desserts.
Hunger Free America, an advocacy group, is against these restrictions.
Joel Berg, the CEO, said some regulation is a good thing, but he wants to see it support access to healthy foods as a choice.
“We do support mandates to mandate that healthier food is available in stores that do accept SNAP,” Berg said. “So, it makes a lot more sense to make it easier to get healthier food.”
Berg said these restrictions are unnecessary in achieving a healthier America.
“We should make America healthier again by making healthy food more affordable, convenient and physically available,” Berg said. “We shouldn’t micromanage the eating patterns of adults to try to achieve that goal.”
The other side:
This is part of the Make America Healthy Again initiative.
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins said, “Under the MAHA initiative, we are taking bold, historic steps to reverse the chronic disease epidemic that has taken root in this country for far too long.”
What they’re saying:
Berg said that these changes, on top of cuts to the program nationwide, will increase hunger.
“It’s not that low-income Americans don’t want healthier food; it’s that they can’t afford healthier food,” Berg said.
This coincides with the announcement that there will be cuts to WIC, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, which supplies food to mothers and young children.
“President Trump’s budget just announced that he’s proposing taking away fruits and vegetables from the WIC program for pregnant women and children under five,” Berg said. “So, they’re taking away healthier food.”
The WIC cuts would take away $1.4 billion in fruit and vegetable benefits from 5.4 million people.
Big picture view:
The SNAP changes come as part of the MAHA movement and include more than 20 other states that will implement changes over the next two years.
