The West Virginia football program has landed a commitment from Wyndmoor (Pa.) La Salle College High 2025 spear Chris Fileppo.
Fileppo, 6-foot-3, 210-pounds, flipped his pledge to the Mountaineers from James Madison where he had been committed since April. The versatile athlete also held offers from Purdue, South Florida, Connecticut, Villanova, Monmouth and a number of others.
The Rivals.com two-star prospect received an offer from West Virginia in May and those efforts were spearheaded by secondary coach ShaDon Brown.
Fileppo made the trek to West Virginia over the weekend for an official visit and saw enough to end his recruitment by committing to the Mountaineers shortly after its conclusion.
Fileppo is set to play spear for West Virginia on defense, but also has the skill set where he could end up at free safety depending on how he continues to develop.
Fileppo represents the sixth commitment for West Virginia in the defensive backfield behind Tampa (Fla.) Gaither 2025 cornerback Serious Stinyard, Irmo (S.C.) Dutch Fork 2025 cornerback Elgin Sessions, Richmond (Va.) Trinity Episcopal 2025 defensive back Terrance “Deuce” Edwards, Lakeland (Fla.) 2025 defensive back Sammy Etienne and Huntington (W.Va.) 2025 safety Zah Jackson.
He is the 18th commitment overall.

Skill set:
Fileppo is a long rangy safety that has the frame to fill out even further. He is a sure tackler and has no reservations coming down into the box to spill ball carriers. He is equipped with the speed and athleticism to cover a lot of ground and his skill set is a good fit for what the program wants at the spear spot.
Fileppo plays both sides of the ball and creates separation as a wide receiver, showcasing his athleticism. He displays strong coverage skills and plays the game with a high IQ in the backend of the defense. He possesses good ball skills and shows the ability to track the football well to both make plays on it and deliver hits.
Fitting the program:
West Virginia continues to target versatility and length in the back end of the defense and Fileppo certainly possesses both of those traits. He has the size and skill set to move around to multiple positions but will likely start his career at either spear or possibly even the free safety spot.
This is a player that secondary coach ShaDon Brown targeted and was able to get him to campus in order to close the deal in his recruitment. The Mountaineers were also able to go into neighboring Pennsylvania to fill a need in the recruiting class and gives the program a safety that can move around to multiple positions.
Fileppo will step into a position where they will be seven scholarship players on the roster when he arrives on campus and with his ability to bounce around it opens doors for him to potentially challenge for early time.
Recruiting the position:
West Virginia has hit the defensive backs hard in this cycle and while there are options out there, expect the Mountaineers to be selective if there are any additional prospects added to the class.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Lottery will roll out a new multi-state daily game this weekend. The first drawing is set for Sunday in the new “Millionaire for Life” game.
“This game doesn’t have an actual ‘jackpot’ it has a top prize, so no matter what one million dollars is the top prize,” said Erin Coats Traditional Lottery Manager for the West Virginia Lottery.
There are 31 other states who participate in “Millionaire for Life.” Unlike the state’s other multi state games like Powerball and MegaMillions, this drawing is every day of the week.
It’s a game Coats believed would be quite popular among West Virginia Lottery players.
“You pick your numbers and also there’s a ‘Millionaire ball’ so just like Powerball,” she explained. “A lot of our surrounding states have already had some form of this game in the past. We’ve heard from players this is something they would be interested in. ”
The top prize is $1 million a year for life, an annuity with a guaranteed 20 year payout or a one time top prize. The second prize is $100,000 for life. The game has eight tiers of winners and the lower tiers can be cashed in at lottery retailers.
“That is the jackpot of a lifetime. We are excited about this new game and the adventures it will bring to our state, but also want to always encourage responsible gameplay,” said West Virginia Lottery Acting Director David Bradley.
The Mountaineers haven’t lost consecutive games since they fell to Clemson and Xavier in the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic at the beginning of the season. Can West Virginia avoid its second losing streak of the season? Here are our picks.
The level of intensity and urgency in the game against Utah was extremely concerning to me. It’s a game they knew they could not afford to drop, and yet they played as if they still had 20 games to prove themselves. I also wasn’t a big fan of some of the things being said by the players postgame. Not that they said anything wrong, they just looked and sounded defeated. Are they going to be able to find some answers offensively in a matter of a couple of days? I don’t think so.
I’ve got this one as another defensive slugfest that pretty much puts an end to whatever is left of WVU’s tournament hopes.
West Virginia has lost seven of the last eight games in Fort Worth, and after the abysmal performance Wednesday night in the home loss to Utah, there’s not much confidence the Mountaineers can steal another road win.
TCU has won the last three of four at home, including a win over Iowa State, and held the Cyclones to a mere 55 points. The Horned Frogs started the Big 12 slate 1-4, but the group has turned their season around and sits one game below .500 at 6-7 in league play.
The Mountaineers have lacked consistency on offense and would do themselves favors to hit the good looks they get, especially in the opening minutes. And there are times they’re two steps behind their opponents and look nothing like the team that knocked off Kansas or the group that has won three of their last four games.
Jamie Dixon’s teams will always be tough defensively, even though during Big 12 play this season, they are in the bottom half of the league. Again, they have improved and have two forwards, David Punch and Xavier Edmonds, who will attack the rim.
West Virginia is in danger of missing the NCAA tournament, and with five games remaining, there’s little room for error. Maybe they come out with a sense of urgency and execute at a high level, and maybe they will be the aggressors from the outset. This group has played freely on the road, and I believe they hit some big shots to pull off the win, 67-66.
